Got. to. love. Vienna!!
Austria... I never knew! Such secrets you kept from me.
Definitely my favourite place so far. We arrived in Vienna around 6ish, it was pitch black. We did a quick driving tour of the central city and then headed to the hostel.
We had a quick costume change and then headed back into the centre to visit the Kursalon for a classical music concerts. It was so much fun, I enjoyed listening to Bach, Mozart (of course) and Strauss and got to hear some operatic singing and ballet dancing. All in all a great experience and I now feel so damn cultured!!
We had a great sleep at the Wombat Hostel in Vienna (which was a super cool hostel) and in the morning Ella and I decided to see as much as we could before we left for Hungary at lunch time. We had a look at the Schönbrunn Palace, the Prater Park, The Austrian Natural History Museum and first and foremost, The Hofburg Imperial Palace.
It was such an eerie feeling, standing in the grounds where Hitler proclaimed the “Anschluss” of Austria into the Third Reich on the 15th March, 1938.
We went into the Palace to have a look at the Kaiser staterooms that was the home of Elisabeth and Franz Joseph, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Ella and I were much impressed by our ability to fit all of this into such a short period of time. We jumped back on the bus at 12:3Öpm and we headed to Hungary and to Budapest.
I will definitely come back to Austria one day, a must see for anyone wanting to travel to Europe.
