Lovely on a nice day! As the title says, it was wet, bloody wet AND we got lost! A brief respite though, with a little sun in between rain.
As I did not want to do 70kms today, I took the train to Bad Ischl while Lindsay biked the 18km. By the time he arrived it started to rain - a big black cloud rolling in from the lake. We sat it out by having coffee and cake at the station and then put on our wet weather gear and heading out towards Lake St Wolfgang. We biked through undulating farmland with huge houses with barns attached. It was a very pretty area to bike through and quiet. St Wolfgang was a whole different story. It is a tourist town and there were bus loads of Asians and Oldies everywhere. I'm sure everyone with crook hips goes on bus tours but I guess needs, must.
St Wolfgang is a really nice town apart from the fact it then decided to really belt down with rain and there we were like shags on a rock, rain coats and over trou on, trying to eat a picnic lunch down at the lakeside under a tree against

Also lovely on a nice day! a wall. The maps were wet, the bikes were wet, the bags were wet, and water poured off us. Yuk! Then the sun came out.
We headed for the lake ferry and squeezed on the boat with heaps of tourists and went across and down the lake to Strobl. We had intended to bike it but it wasn't pleasant enough. You could see that where we were heading was black so it wasn't going to be a good ride back. The first part (after we finally found the biking path) was quite pleasant along the river on a small sub road. The rain then started with a vengeance so after all our possible wet weather gear was on we headed off with rain pouring on us, the roads squishing under our tyres and cars spraying. Not pleasant at all. We then lost the path close to Bad Ischl and ended up on the motorway!!! A lady pulled up by us and informed us to turn around as we heading to a tunnel. She had a long queue of traffic behind her stopped for our benefit. How to feel complete Joes....... So back we went and eventually found the path

Along the river in Bad Ischl back into town. Who knows where the turn off was, it was too wet to see.
Back at the Railway Station where I was going to get the train back, there was a wait of 50mins, so damn it, I decided I might as well bike back to Ebensee against my better judgement. Linds was going to anyway. Half way back the sun came out, the coats dried and it was quite pleasant. So much for a short day! I ended up doing 55kms and Lindsay 70kms.
Back at the guesthouse looks like a bomb has gone off with everything from clothes, rain wear, bags and contents spread out on the balcony. Definitely time for a beer.
What we had intended to do at St Wolfgang was to get the little puffer train up to the tops of the mountain where you can view the many lakes around this area (there are 70 we are told). I guess you can't do much about the weather.................. We were informed that back in Nelson it had been lovely and sunny and up to 20 degrees. It's supposed to be winter there and summer here. Whoops!
