Innsbruck

Another day trip (had to take advantage of our train ticket). We headed off early to Innsbruck, which is just under 2 hours away on the train. The first thing we wanted to do is visit the Swarovski Kristallwelten (crystalworlds), which is in a village a little way out of Innsbruck. It was all very well organised, we hopped in a dedicated shuttle straight out of the train station and were at the kristallwelten in about half an hour, you had two hours to go through the whole thing (well, an hour to go through the displays and then an hour to hang out in the largest Swarovski shop in the world to try to talk yourself into paying their exorbitant prices) and then the shuttle takes you straight back to the train station. The displays were great, it was kind of like some great big modern art museum with all sorts of interactive displays and mechanicals things and of course all sorts of impressive crystals. And the shop was huge, with some absolutely ridiculous things and some absolutely amaying things. All a bit out of my price range though i am afraid, i think i will stick to clothes. 😊
We then had a wander around the town, which was beautiful and snowy again. It snowed all day, but was very light snow and was relatively warm. They had some nice little shops, and mum got a lovely little music box and a chirstmas bracelet, but the markets were a little disappointing, nothing really there that tickled our fancy.
We did however try our first european McDonalds, because we thought that would be funny. They still had Big Macs and McChickens and everything, but a range of other stuff as well. The meat actually tasted like meat, which was a step up from NZ, but i do have to admit that it was the greasiest Maccas that i have ever tried, NZ definitely held the top hand there.
