Getting ready to climb some stairs
The Austrian home of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Graz is a beautiful city nestled in the foothills of the Styrian Alps. It is Austria’s second largest city, and has a lot to offer. We decided yet again to make use of the 11 euro Saturday train tickets and make our way south. After a beautiful train ride that winded through the mountains and into long tunnels, we were finally there, and choose to spend our day like most other day trips; walking and sitting in the sun. Our hike through town led us into the main square, which crosses past the awesome river front. The best view of the city was had on top of the cliff, which houses the towns’ big clock. From there, you can see the whole city, and the mountains in the distance. The guys split off from the girls, and they chose to go shopping. The three of us parked ourselves on a bench and soaked up the sun (I need that vitamin D!) The majority of the day was spent on different parts of that same cliff, strolling through gardens and making our way to a bench whenever the sun peeked out of the clouds. The day

was wrapped up in a quaint little Irish Pub, and ended with a relaxing 2 hour train ride back home!

On Sunday, one of our buddies and his dad (and their awesome dog Kiera) decided to take us up into an area on the outskirts of Vienna called the Vienna Woods. It is basically the start of the lowland alps that can be followed all the way through Austria, Switzerland, and down to the Southern Coast of France. The day was beautiful and I was amazed by the amount of families, and older couples that made spent the day hiking. It is very popular to go out into the mountains on the weekends. There are lookout points where you can see the city of Vienna. On a clear day you can see into Slovakia, and Czech Republic. We enjoyed a local Austrian brew at the top in one of the cottage restaurants and proceeded to hike back down the path we came from.
