Salzburg
Overlooking Salzburg, Austria Day 14- Wednesday The days are ticking down and I have to prepare myself to come back to reality. Wednesday we left Germany for Venice. The snow on Tuesday left the Alps of Austria and Germany picturesque. It reminded me of Christmas snow then I thought of driving in it and the pleasure of the snow quickly vanished.
We did our usual stop at the Auto Plaza and had some great food. We also took a two-hour stop in Salzburg. I call this stop, “looking for Maria”. You know from the Sound of Music. Take a couple of minutes and view this site and watch the video:
. I must come back.
I've been here before but it was such a fast stop that I really don't remember too much. This time, I wanted to see the sights shown in the movie. So off we went, the usual gang: Angela, Shelley, Donna, Susan, Deb, Andrea, Jessica, Dr. Z and Lance. We went looking for the famous church in the movie. We got lost, first straight, then left, then right. That's when we decided to split up before it became a minor cluster **ck.
During our walk, we Lookking For Maria
Donna, Shelley, Angela, Susan, Deb and Ann Walking Up To The Convent in Salzburg found the convent that overlooks the city. Well, we did not know this as we walked up the hill. We saw a walkway and some steps. We took a hike up a few steps, then a few more, then a lot more. It reminded me of walking up the back steps of the Palace in Monaco a few years ago. I needed pure oxygen when I got to the top. Was it worth it? Most definitely yes! We took several pictures of the city and one of the group.
We then walked across the city bridge and found the city center. We ended up in a courtyard that had a mini farmers market. I found my bananas that I was looking for since London. Yes bananas and nutella, what a treat. Did we buy some things? Yes, I got this lovely Austrian hat and Donna and Shelley got a few trinkets for their family. And we ate some Austrian treats while we were there. Back to the bus and a group picture. Thanks Lance for taking the group shot.
We had a long ride on the bus to Venice. Only got lost once on this leg. That is
No Maria
Ann and Susan Did Not Find Maria, But Found This Beautiful Statute In Salzburg a huge step for Luggi and the DrakeSmart group. Every year we seem to get lost, get in late, circle the city a few times and so on. This year we hardly got lost the whole trip. Great job Luggi!
Have I talked about bus mates? If yes, I’ll do it again. Carole was my bus mate from London to Berlin. Then I sat with Shannon Meyer, niece of Dr. Meyer. Today I sat with Bill. Not much talking, more sleeping. That’s what I like to do, sleep on the bus. That’s how I get by with only 5 hours of sleep. I’ll write more about my adventures in Venice tomorrow.
LongStory Short,
Ann
