Yes, I'm still here. But after all bustling, sleezy Italian men, and wrong trains its nice to stay somewhere for a couple of days. I've been doing day trips and walking through the city. I think this is one of my favorites. Its quiet and calm, but still a city. There is beautiful architecture and its clean. My favorite place to go is up the mountain behind the castle to the abbey with the red roof. This was supposedly the abbey Maria Von Trapp belonged to. I don't know for sure. Walk up all those stairs (theres a lot!) and you find one of the best, most peaceful, views of the back of the city looking towards the mountains. In the afternoon it grows hazy to where you can hardly see the mountains anymore but the unusual church steeples stick out amongst the haze. They are all colored teal except for the red one on top of the abbey. A few forboding nuns walk by every now and then but its very secluded. The nuns here wear the full habit, black and white and everything but the face covered. Its kind of intimidating! Walk up further on the road and you

I hate to say it, but its also in the film Sound of Music. This church is at the bottom of the hill leading to the castle, not the abbey though
come to the castle. Its a terrible climb! I've been lugging 30 kilos of luggage around for nearly two months and I still had quite a few breaks on the way up! Its incredibly steep but when you get to the top its a courtyard and an unused castle. Great views! Is all colored yellow (including orange leaves in the trees) and gives the late, lazy summer ambiance even though its mid October and getting a little chilly! Well, thats all I have to say. Salzburg will forever be a favorite- full of good memories, cuckoo clocks, and 500 tshirts that say "Austria does not have Kangaroos!"
