Edit Blog Post
I have been home since August. I should have written this blog some time ago, but I never felt I could do it or I should say, do it right. Fifty months on the road were coming to an end. I knew I had only two months to go and I couldn't see myself spending three hours on a computer. I really wanted to do everything I dreamed of doing before I left. You know, before you leave for the first time, you are making a list of all you want to do and obviously most of it remain undone by the end of your trip. I was at one of those dead ends.
For the first time in four years I was feeling the time passing by. I read that time was the last enemy. It is funny how good I feel when I know that I can live the present moment as it is and not care about what is next. I was the king of the world, but all good things come to an end. I had only two months to go and I was ready to make the best of it.
We were in Macedonia,
trying to find a way in Greece. The original plan was to take a bus from Ohrid to Thessaloniki, plan that we wrote off when we found out there was only two buses a week going to Greece, all from the capital. We then consider renting a car, but again everything look too complicated at the time. The last and best option we had was to take a bus to Tirana and then another one to Sarande, which meant about 20h of crappy bus in two days.
The bus was really bad. I really thought for a minute I was back in central America or Africa. I mean... half the seat of the bus were fucked, the luggage suit felt on me at least two times and the bus had to stop several times for mechanical reasons. The major problem with the journey was the destination. The roads in Albania are shit and the country itself is pretty ugly. Alto the seaside is pretty, most of the journey was through the mountains. Albania have a bad history and being there make you consider how lucky you are to be from somewhere else. We saw a lot of cars from
the USA and one of the major street of Tirana is call George W. Bush ave. I will not make any comment on that issue, but I think it is weird a bit. We did not do much in the capital. We had some good time at the hostel with fellow travelers and staff.
Sarande was better. The journey from Tirana is very long. You are driving on the coast which is far better, but you are going up and down all the time. Sarande is some kind of resort. You have a couple nice beach, some tiny restaurant and most important, boats to Corfu. We stayed at a small hostel owned by an Irish women.

ps. Hard to believe, but I will miss this blog. I spend most of the trip writing in my notebook and when I start doing this blog, I was doing it only to make Chloe's parents happy... I will make three more entries in the next days to close out this trip.
