Hi again! Well, I am now in Panama! You may have noticed I was only in Costa Rica 10 mins ago but no, i havent acquired a pair of red Dorothy shoes, have just done a double input!
Was really sad leaving Costa Rica and very emotional saying goodbye to my host mum but I pulled myself together and got on the bus to San jose. I was just contemplating what lovely bunch of people Id met when, wham! I realised some scumbag had robbed a load of clothes from my back pack while I was walking from one bus to another! What gits hey! So I am now travelling lighter, no shorts or combats, denim jacket, 2 dresses and a top. Even my nasty butch combats for the Inca Trail got swiped, Grr! Oh well, just as I was coming terms with it I then discovered Id picked up worms from the kids. Quite grim but am OK now thankfully!
Headed off to jaco to meet the girls which was lovely. We stayed ina place with a lovely pool and the weather was hot hot hot. Only thing was we couldnt swim as t´he Pacific water is far too choppy.
We sat by the pool one day and I was eating a banana...put my skin on the floor and from nowhere this HUUUGE iguana bowled over and started eating the skin right next to me! We were so shocked... it was sat right next to us! Wildlife in Costa Rica is mad!
Sent Emma off in a taxi on saturday which was sad. Sadness turned into panik however when I suddenly realised she had a load of my travellers cheques in her bag (my fault!) We ended up chasing her taxi in a bus and made it just before she had checked the bag in, phew! Id have been coming home very skinny otherwise!
Me and Naomes got a bus from San Jose to Sixaola then walked across the border to Panama. That was dicey, its a rickety old bridge with huge gaps in the floor. Half the fence has fallen down so you have to gingerly make ur way across these wobbly planks staright over the water with nothing to hold on to. To make it worse, huge trucks then come whizzing over the bridge so you have to crouch on the side. Its either get mowed down or
squeeze onto the edge of the bridge which isnt the safest when ur carrying a mahussive back pack albeit without half your clothes!
We made it in one piece and then got another bus and a water taxi to Bocas del Toro. It was well worth the rough ride, its absolutley beautiful there, in fact, we found it hard to leave! Its a group of tiny, pretty islands with amazing beaches. You have to get water taxis from one to the other and the hostels and bars all sit on stilts over the water. Its gorgeous here, our hostel had a lovely wooden deck which looks right out over the sea, so pretty, we spent hours sat there reading and playing cards. We did a day trip to go and see the dolphins which was fantastic, I could have cried I was so excited! Saw loads of them! Then went to the most stunning deserted island called Zapatillas. Its oaradise, had the whole place to ourselves!
From Bocas we made our way to Boquete, a complete contrast, a tiny little village in the mountains. Very pretty and much cooler. We decided to walk the Baru volcano which was brilliant though
we are both walking liek John Wayne still and we only did 7k of it, we didnt have the time or energy to go all the way to the top!
We got a night bus from Boquete to Panama city which again is completely different! Visted teh canal today which is very impressive...we went round the museum and learnt a bit more about how it all works. Its amazing. Oh, went to teh cinema last night to see the new film Inception. We waited an hour as the film kept stopping then going on fast forward and rewinding back to the start! Loads of Panamaneans walked out, there was f-ing and blinding all round! We decided to hang around though and was well worth it. Got to see the film which is brilliant by the way and still got a refund, whoop whoop, have to save our dollars where we can!
Next stop, Ecuador, probably Tuesdsay now. Cant believe where the times going! Miss you all and look forward to catch up when home. Lots of love xxx
