Green Canyon
Green canyon at the first rest stop This entry is kind of a "miscellaneous" entry. It mostly contains a number of pictures from earlier in the program, especially during the trip to and from Manuel Antonio. Some of the pictures were just too nice not to include.
We had some very interesting rest stops on the way to the Pacific and on the way home. First, we stopped for lunch at an interesting restaurant not too far from San Joaquin as we were starting out toward the Manuel Antonio area. Not only was the food very traditional, but the building was decorated very traditionally, and there was a great view of a vegetation-covered canyon right outside the restaurant. Later, after riding for a couple of hours, we stopped at the famous "crocodile bridge," a stong modern bridge over the Tarcoles River where tourists can almost always see crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river. Only about half an hour later, we got our first glimpses of the Pacific and stopped at an overlook to take some pictures. If you saw the entry on Manuel Antonio, you already got a preview of these pictures because the group shot was taken there. Finally, after the Manuel Antonio
Traditional Plate
Our food was served on a banana leaf, which was a traditional method in Costa Rica. weekend was over, while returning to the San Joaquin area, we stopped at a really interesting rest stop that seemed to have a little bit of everthing. There was a nice gift shop with reasonable prices, a restaurant and snack bar, unique gardens on a hillside where we could walk and take a closer look at the flowers and plants, and even a live toucan (see video). You just never know what you are going to find when you stop for a little break along a road in Costa Rica!
