This short blog covers Guatemala, Honduras and Belize - they didn´t take us too long to travel through so it seemed fitting to do them together. The first interesting thing was border crossing from Mexico into Guatemala - it was like no other I´ve seen.. No border patrol, no guns, no border to look at actually. We just got out of the bus, walked down a muddy path and caught a boat along the river, and without realizing it we were no in Guatemala! Too easy! Our plan was to quickly visit Tikal (the famous ruins in the jungle in the north of the country) and cross into Belize, and to return to Guatemala in the south at a later date. This turned out to be a good plan. Tikal was for us a real highlight of the trip. Something truely special and different to everything else we saw. Go there for the nature (the jungle, animals etc) or for the ruins and you can´t be disapointed. And the combination of the ruins with the nature is perfect. A 5 star destination.

Igaz hajnal 3-kor keltunk, hogy megcsodalhassuk a napfelkeltet, 20 perc rohanas az ejszakai erdoben, a vegen egy kb 60m magas rom megmaszasa, de boven megerte.
As easily as we entered Guatemala we then left it in search of Caribean islands in Belize. The main objective being to dive the famous blue hole (a 40m deep coral hole). It, together with the dive and snorkelling sites around it were really spectacular, and we left the island happy but sunburnt..

Napkelte Tikal, Guatemala felettsee if we got lucky enough to stop one of these cats in the wild.. It was a nice walk but the closest we got to seeing any jaguars were their footprints. We were consoled to know a guy had been there for 8 months and was still waiting for his first glimse.

Then we did another border crossing by boat, back into Guatemala (for my shortest time in one country - just 2 hours), and then crossed another border into Honduras. We wanted to do an advanced diving course on the island of Utila in the north, and ended up enjoying our time there so much we ran out of time to see anything else in Honduras. No regrets through - our relaxing stay on a tiny island just off of Utila was well worth the sacrifice.

Then we headed back into Guatemala (our passports are full of their stamps..), this time for lake Atitlan and a volcano in the south. The lake seemed like a great place to rest for a few days but we didn´t have that luxury which was a shame. The volcano Pacaya was well worth the visit - we were able to walk right up to lava which wasn't something we do on a daily basis. Great to experience.
