We just got back from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. The total time that we were there was eleven days, and we had a great time!!!!! Here's how it is. It is a very clean and quiet island. The two main roads are Grace Bay Road, which is where the vast majority of touristy things are, and Leeward Highway. The latter is a very busy highway with very little to no sidewalk to walk on; we know first hand!!!!! The currency that is used on the island is the US Dollar, although Turks and Caicos is still a British Protectorate. Many of the businesses on the island are owned by either Americans, Candadians, or British citizens. The majority of the workers for the hotels are from all over, a relatively small percentage are from the Turks ... read more

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands twice, both times to the island of Providenciales. The first trip was a family vacation. The island chain is just a bit south of the bahamas, not technically in the caribbean. This was a spring break trip but the weather was certainly tropical. We had some evening storms and one day when the wind was blustery but otherwise pleasant conditions. We stayed at the Ocean Club West a condo resort on Grace Bay which stretches for several miles. The beach is wide and sandy with fairly calm waters. Because it is a sandy bay there's not much to see when snorkelling off the beach but it is nice for swimming and you can see the occasional sand dollar even in 17 feet ... read more

It seem as if June 1st was just the other day and now we are packing our bags to return home in the morning. The past 30 days have been beyond believable!!! We have met wonderful new friends in Cayman, New Providence (Nassau), Abaco, and Turks & Caicos. Today was our final day in the Caribbean but the memories of our 30-day tour will last a lifetime. The memories of our time together will forever connect the five of us and our new friends. On each island one of our team members were able to check off something that they've always wanted to do and on Saturday and Sunday I was re-introduced to the relaxation of being in the water! What started off as "oh no" soon became, " oh my God!!!" Talk about a team ... read more

From Katie- Hello All! Had a few minutes to spare and thought to bring you all up to speed. We have had an exciting few days in TCI (Turks and Caicos Islands). Since arriving we have presented at all the Rotary meetings in the country! We had a chance to meet and present at the Rotaract Club (dynamic group), travel to Grand Turks for a tour, visit to museum and then a meeting with their Rotary Club and back to Provo for their Rotary club's last meeting before changeover (which we will be attending tomorrow). Everyone has been wonderful and taking great care of us and making us feel welcome. I am staying with Betty and Allistar who own and operate an underwater semi-sub (pretty cool)! We went out for dinner at the Tiki-Hut on wednesday ... read more

Wendy & Katie checking in - As sad as we were to end our time on Abaco, Turks & Caicos welcomed us in grand style. We arrived on the beautiful island of Providenciales (Provo to the locals), and we were picked up at the airport and taken to the West Bay Club for our two day break to recharge our batteries for our last week of this life changing experience. We spent most of our break chatting and trying to put into words how this experience has impacted our lives, but found it challenging to express it even to each other. We hope all of you who are following along on the blog are able to get at least a small glimpse of what this exchange has brought into our lives and that we are protraying ... read more

Georgetown is often referred to as Chicken Harbor, seeing that it is the southernmost point that most cruisers travel. It is here that boats either turn back and return to the U.S. (the chickens) or continue south to the Caribbean Islands (the brave sailors). Last year we turned back but this year we are pushing on south, determined to bring the Rum Runner to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, as well as the Windward and Leeward Islands. Although this is an uphill battle, we have to wait for the right weather conditions to travel against the trade winds (25-30 knots dead on the nose from here on out- fun, fun!) But occasionally you get lucky and the trade winds die down enough to motor to the next destination. Well we must be really lucky, because an ... read more

Here are some pics of our trip to the island of Provonciales or at the locals call it - Provo. We stayed at the Comfort Suites, a small hotel, close to Grace Bay. Grace Bay is one of Conde Nast's top 10 beaches in the Carribean. We spent our days on this sleepy (but expensive) island on the beach. Except for one day when Eric and I rented a jeep and drove around the island. ... read more
