Cricket before it was rained off
I got invited to do some more touristy things with the other students today. So after hospital we went to watch the cricket. It was Windies vs Sri Lanka test cricket. This was day 2, and it was already 4 hours in before we came. The stadium was pretty quiet because all of the locals will still at work, so apparently the weekend is a lot busier and a better atmosphere. It was quite good fun to watch, but after about 15 minutes of cricket, it started to pour it down with rain, so they had to cover the field with tarps and stop the game. The rain only lasted 5 minutes, but they then spent almost an hour drying the field, rolling over the whole field with like a mini steam roller. So after about an hour, we saw another 5 or so minutes, then decided to go out for food.

So then we went out to Gros Islet for the street party that evening. I introduced the girls to rum punches, and then we met up with the boys. The boys took us to this fish grill by the beach, which had a good half hour queue to get food, but they said it was worth it. And it was. I had grilled tuna steak, and it was so good. It didn't taste like fish at all, it just tasted of their marinade and BBQ and was really tender and flaky with crispy skin. They also gave you so much, it was definitely enough for two people. You could have it with rice and bread, but I opted for just rice as I wouldn't have fit it in otherwise. Even I struggled, despite not having had lunch either.

Then we joined the street party and danced in the street for a while, and then it started to rain again. At first it was just nice and cooling, but then it really started to tip it down. We danced for as long as we could in the tropical rain before deciding we should probably go home, as everyone else had run for cover.

So it rained an awful lot, but we still had fun. We'll try again next week and fingers crossed for better weather.
