bregar: verbo intransitivo
1 (trabajar duro) to toil, slaveaway: ha estado bregando todo el día en el taller, she has been slaving away all day in the workshop
2 (discutir) to argue: han estado bregando toda la mañana sin conseguir nada, they have been arguing all morning and have got nowhere

malbete, marbete is the correct spelling, PR people pronounce R"s as L's. No English translation found, but it is referred to as label. Here it is used as the tag or boat registrations.

pai or mai, your Dad or mom, papa or mama. "Que pasa Pai o Mai"- What's up dude or What's up girl?

compai, not sure, but they refer to it quite often.

Algarete - The word literally means in Spanish wayward, without a given path. It is said of a ship at sea, without a sail, having no defined course. It is used to describe something crazy, out of control, disorganized.

calzón quitao - Literally meaning "without pants on," it is used to mean something said without prejudice but also without tact, bluntly honest.

Chocha is a slur word for vagina.

Cachete, it is actually a cheek bone, but here used as someone who never brings drinks or food. Also used as a hand expression for something really good.

This is not to offend anyone, it is just a compilation of words we have acquired since stranded here.

China - May refer to the country "China", a female from or of Chinese descent. It also may refer to the color or fruit "Orange".

Chavo - Dinero

Guillao - Full of himself or herself. It comes from another Puerto Rican term meaning "guille" which roughly translates as "pride" (but it has a negative connotation) or "delusion" (i.e. someone who has a "guille" of being something they are not much like a "poser" or a "wannabe").

Guagua - A city bus, an SUV, a van, a pick up truck, etc. So if someone tells you, here are my keys, take my guagua in the parking lot, you are in big trouble....

Ñoña es! "No way!"

Oiteh "Did you hear me?" Viteh "Did you see?"

Piragua - A Puerto Rican frozen treat shaped like a pyramid.

Vete pa'l Caribe Hilton! (minced oath of Vete pa'l carajo!)
