I woke up this morning and unlike back home, instead of checking the stock market I check how many new mosquito bites I have. I thought I had fortified my bed with a mosquito net but still managed to receive 5 new ones. Damn why can´t my stocks perform as consistent as these mosquito bites.
It was a rough sleep last night. I was partying with the 3 guys from El Savatore and called it an early night but they kept going. In the morning I was woken up by a combination of roosters, dogs and a very annoying car alarm. It must be a local with his first car alarm because he had set it to the most annoying setting. It pretty much rang everytime someone bumped it or farted, and it wasn´t a short one. It was the full meal deal car alarm that kept going.
So I woke up and showered and hit the coffee shot. The one I keep telling you guys about. It was a nice morning and I had everything all planned out. But then just like that it started raining hard and not like any other times it did not stop. It looks like a storm is coming and then poof all the power went out. I was in transition to another hostel so now I am stuck. The entire village has no power and no one knows when it will come back on. The surf guys are hesitant to take me across the river to the breaks because of flash floods. I can´t reallly explain it but I had never been in a village with no power for 5 hours. Time just slows down to a halt and soon you find yourself making stupid games up at the beach to pass the time. I found a coconut and then thought to myself how fun it would be if i threw it in the ocean and see how far I can skip it. I was bored.
The entire day was a write off and it´s been 3 days in San Juan de sur with no surf what so ever. So after exloring the town all over again I finally sat in front of my new hostel and broke out the rum.
Marianne has gone to the islands and I wanted to stay behind to surf. But now with that not a possibility I read and drank my rum.
2 hours later it is in the evening and I found myself wondering town. The sun has gone down and it´s very dark. I never noticed this restaurant before of all the times I wondered around the village but this one stood out. I went inside and to my suprise it was quite nice, almost a restaurant you would find on west 4th back home.
It almost looked like a cute bistro with all the decor to go with it. I sat down and scanned the menu and ordered this Indiana burger which was quite good. I had a wine, then a martinee, then 3 more stoli´s martiniees. They were all $3 and they filled the martinee glass to the rim. Needless to say at this point I was drunk. I can hear in the background Frank Senatra sounds and couldn´t help but to zen out. Here I was sitting in some bistro in a small Nicaraguan village having dinner and a Stoli martinee listen to Frank Senatra. Life is just good...All the mosquito bites I have accumulated has faded in the background and has been replaced with another perfect zen moment. I had some time to reflect and just had a big smile on my face.
All the great people I met like Marie back in Cahuita in Costa Rica who was 60 and back packing it. Or Thelia who was from Germany taking pictures all over the world or Paco from South America wondering around the world exchanging his web service for accomations. I have worked so hard these past 2 years that I had forgotten how important it was to take a break and enjoy things and right now I am enjoying things.
I have to cut this short because the Internet guy is telling me he is closed and i probably reak like booze..adios...
