Yet Another Favourite
This one belonged to the family of my student whose family also owns the bar Villa Real. I got back to Comayagua late Wednesday night. Thursday I did laundry, did some marking and then head out to Pizza Hut with Donray, Alisa, and Jill. Pizza Hut just opened in town. Let me tell ya, this place is Niiiiiiiice! Way better than the pizza hut I worked at. It was so big, had a HUGE play area, and just really new looking... go figure.
They had a nice salad bar too so Jill ordered it and then we all shared the salads. Cheating the system... we're bad, we know. We also got a pan pizza to split and breadsticks. It all tasted very similar to home. We arrived at a good time too because just after we ordered the line up was out the door!
After dinner, I went to meet Walter at a party. His friend Kenny's Dad was celebrating his 50th birthday. Kenny's parents and Kenny all speak English. Nice family. This is the same guy who was with us at the bar when my family was visiting. Anyways, it was a good party. I left to meet up with Alisa and Jill at one point and then there was some drama after this
with Walter but ended with he and I walking around until 3am, watching the people take the streets and starting to build the sawdust carpets. They looked like movie sets. They had spotlights and ladders and tons of people. Was just so cool.
The pictures in this blog will just be a few highlights. If you love them and want to see more, check out this link:

There are 60 photos there, which are again just highlights. There things were amazing!
It's amazing what they can do with sawdust. Friday morning, I got up (after just 4 hours of sleep) and went with Jill and Alisa to see the carpets, take TONS of pics, and see the procession. Words just doesn't describe the amazingness. The detail. The work. The dedication. These people put TONS of work into these things and then hours later they are walked over and destroyed.
We spent most of the day just walking around and taking pics from the ladders they provide to give you a better angle.
Later in the afternoon we went home for a nap then head back out. We watched a procession once it was dark too.
Re-creation
check out the photo behind them. Notice anything? These kids were so excited to pose for us. It was a bunch of little girls put on their own little floats (each girl having 4 people carry her), and dressed as angels. Each angel had a sentence above her. There were 7 girls. Each phrase was one of the last things that Jesus said while on the cross. It was kind of eerie but so cool. So many people with candles. And the beautiful little girls. Reminded me of the video my church shows every year to the song "I Would Die For You" by Jann Arden. Missed my church a lot in that moment.
After the procession passed, Alisa, Jill, and I went for dinner at Ricardo's in Central Park. It was a nice evening.
Every Good Friday from now on, I will forever remember the amazingness of the carpets. Glad I was around for this whole thing, which we wouldn't have been had we been in Guatemala, although they do something similar it Antigua there too. I definitely will never forget this Good Friday.
