Hot Waterfall 23rd Oct ’11 Rio Dulce
We set off at 8am by minibuses to travel to Rio Dulce (Sweet River) we stopped at a hacienda – a lovely farm in the countryside for breakfast then carried on to a hot waterfall with a swimming pool area in the jungle. It was a nice spot so we all went in for a swim and then carried on travelling to the town of Fronteras where we caught a boat for about 5 inutes up river to the Tortugal (Turtle) lodge where we got the most fantastic surprise – its fabulous! And even better the ‘couples’ got private rooms with ensuite OMG heaven! Feel stacks better now. It’s all build of wood and right on the river banks, the food was delicious and just what I needed!

5 of us did a trip up the river by boat to the coastal town of Livingston. At first we went up river to the rebuilt Spanish fort. We then headed down river, it was great travelling through beautiful dense jungle scenery with tiny villages which we sailed through. A couple of little girls in canoes came paddled up to us to

Old spanish castle try and sell us shells and crafts. We stopped near bird island – one of many small mangrove islands in the river which all the birds seem to have chosen to live on. After about 2 hours we then arrived at Livingston which is built where the river joins the sea. It’s a small, laid back carribean town. It’s obviously quite poor but with a couple of ‘main’ roads with little shops (where I bought Emilly’s little box) and all the houses are painted pretty colours. Again there is quite a heavy rasta population/influence. We wandered about exploring and then had lunch at the Baga Mama restaurant. This is a local co-operative where all the profits go back to the community and also young people are trained in different skills for employment. It was right on the water front with lovely views. I went to the loo and 4 afro-carribean girls were there and all examined my tattoos they wanted to know particularly if my wrist one hurt and then one of the girls’ whipped up her top and pulled down her trousers to show me all of hers! It was quite funny as the whole conversation was in Spanish

River village and mime! We tootled back up the river and are now just relaxing at the lodge – now this is much more like it! The chilled out mood was soon broken as when I went out onto the open air smoking area I felt something land on my head from an overhead tree. Howard was saying its nothing just your imagination when I looked down and saw a massive spider drop onto the deck!!!
Tonight we had movie night, chairs and a screen were set up and we watched Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher accompanied by the very load croaking of frogs! It was pretty good but of course Howard didn’t like it!
