My room
i'm lovin this panorama option :) a Spanish student :p
Ola amigos!
Almost two weeks have passed since I updated my blog the previous time so I guess a little entry is due.
Now I must warn the lot of you that those who are seeking trills and adventure, this post might come up short of your desires but nevertheless I will be writing an entry to give you some idea of 'what's hapnin'.
So currently I am planning to stay here in San Pedro FOREVER :O na not really 😊
I like it here but I must admit that the urge to move on becomes greater with every day... so many places to visit, so many things to see.
But anyway I will be continuing classes until Friday the 20th and decide then if I need a week more or not before I head out to continue my journey.
Besides going to school and studying I haven't been up to a whole lot lately, mainly because those two do take up most of the day and I am focused quite seriously on learning Spanish.
I don't have a lot to write about unless if you want to hear about how I had dinner
at the casa in company of half the village, which was nice though: to experience a traditional meal in the company of local people.
I know that that's pretty much what I have been doing throughout the week but this was like the national Guatemalan dish and there were like 40people or so.
Or how I was kept up all night by people celebrating … 'el dia de la madre'
There were kids running around in the streets, while singing loudly and blowing horns all trough the night.
And as if that wasn't enough there was a car, fitted with some kind of huge stereo system, accompanying them which simply announced that this was a glorious and important day to everyone. -.-'
This pretty much went on from midnight to six in the morning...
The only exciting thing, to me at least, that happened besides swimming was last Sunday when I was eating some pollo-quesadillas(which if I may add were both dirt-cheap and divinely tasty).
Actually I was still waiting for my dinner while at the table next to me four policemen arrived and sat down.
Now, you're probably thinking what's so special about that, and you're right,
So it wasn't Bethlehem?
This is SP primary school btw nothing really but...
Policemen back at home, for as far as I know, carry a handgun, handcuffs, and maybe some mace or something.
While these guys … besides having a genuine navy-seal combat-knife the size of a baseball bat strapped to their thigh, which at first doesn't seem too illogic, but after given some thought...
We all know that those knifes aren't designed to subdue people but rather to kill bears and other large kinds of mammal.
But, the part which was actually interesting, these guys sat down, ordered some burgers and fanta's.
While doing this they all put their respective weapon on their lap.
Now, these guys obviously didn't need to bother with Uzi's, M-16's or any kind of lesser guns.
Each of them had a cannon(I can't find a better word to describe it) that, besides looking like it could fire a 1.000 rounds per second, probably could fire heat-seeking missiles, grenades, torpedoes and small nukes... all of that at the same time :O
So these dudes were patrolling the streets and eating hamburgers while carrying rifles that would make a starship-trooper blush.
Well, at least to me, that was awesome 😊
I didn't ask if i could
Classrooms
thats where i'm learning spanish xp take their picture though, there is something about men dressed in black, in full combatgear, in a country which emerged from war and whatever not too long ago that doesn't invite much for casual conversation and such :x
Ah ye, the life of a Spanish student...
I'll add some pictures about that since there isn't a big deal to write about going to school, eating and studying.
I've limited the times a week I am going out since well, I’d rather travel a week more than go out each night 😉
But last weekend when I did go out for some beers I met some cool people form da city of angels.
And as Tupac's greatest hits was playing(the entire cd) the dude reminisced that he had actually once worked with these people.
Now I do understand that I have no idea if this is true what this bloke told me, but he claimed that he owned a studio back in the day in LA that made videos for amongst others Tupac and Nate-dog.
Which if it were true would be awesome to me since I once was, and actually still am a huge 2pac fan XD (dont even
School's cafetaria
They serve some killer smoothies over here xp think about dissin me cuz of this or i'll call ma homiez and ... ;P )
...
I've actually quite recently also started to contemplate on where I will be going and how I'll be getting there for the rest of my America trip.
It seems manageable and I can add that (if I do pull it off like I have it planned now) the journey I did so far will seem little more than 'a dull little trip' compared to what I have in store for the next part :p
I might even enlighten you in my next entry but for the moment, this is all I have to share because now … I have to go do my homework 😉
Hasta la proxima vez,
Pieje!

Viva Guatemala, Viva Belgica
After all these days without news it is a relief to read your latest posting. Apparently you are not suffering from the combination... education and fulfilling a world tour. On the contrary, you seem to enjoy every bit of your prolonged stay in San Pedro. Even considering for a while to stay in San Pedro forever but then realizing that this would create some kind of panic at this end of the world and therfore choose to continue your mission ? As a matter of fact you might decide to move on already at the end of this week and then very typical but charming you leave us completely in the dark with your following itinerary. Will it really be so much more adventurous? I am anxious to read what you are exactly planning to do. How is the study of the Spanish language proceeding ? Do you feel yourself more comfortable to get engaged into a conversation with the local people? Are you studying with an English/Spanish dictionary ? Did you feel that earth quake in Costa Rica? I heard it on the radio but probably it wasn't felt in Guatemala. Your bedroom ... well a bit tricky ? I suspect that you are trying to impress the women's association? If not, I confess I am also not functioning so orderly. And then your classroom. If at the time when I was young I could have learned in such a manner, I feel sure that I would have get much more out of my study, but of course it is too late now. Pedro you should write us something about the people overthere. Are they very poor or simply poor? Are they nevertheless happy ? Is it a relatively safe or dangerous neighbourhood ? And about food. Are you eating many things, we really don't know ? What is that Guatemalan national dish ? What about chili con carne ? Did you eat this also ? It is almost noon here. What am I going to eat, for your dad's sake: pasta, meat-bread, peas and bearnaise sauce. I hope it can match up a little bit with what you are going to eat today. Que tengas suerte con su programa de estudios. Hasta la proxima vez Pedro.
