After trapsing the streets of Mexico city for 2 hours I finally found a place to download my photos one block from my hotel! It has taken me 4 hours to put them all up. I wish I could have done them with my stories however hopefully you will be able to follow them. They are in the following order Havana (at the start and end of my trip), Santiago de Cuba, Trindad, Santa Clara, Veradero (just a couple of the beach here) and Vinales and Pina de Rio. I really hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them. The ones of the Tropicana show have turned our really well and I have some great people shots as well. Having got word that our bikes had arrived at Havana airport, we eagerly made our way from the west of the country back to the capital to collect them. On arrival at the Lost and Found office we were shown a large pile of luggage dumped in the main concourse of the arrivals hall. There were 4 bike boxes there in good condition, but none of them were ours! We eventually communicated this problem to the staff there and they led us into a locked storeroom containing more found luggage. At first, we didn´t recognise our boxes, then it dawned on us that the crumpled pieces of cardboard in the corner were actually ours. Right, where to start...because of the extortionate price and interminable problems with using the internet in Cuba I will have to do my whole 10 days in one go...congratulations if you make it to the end! I left Isla Mujeres and caught my flight to Havana with no problems. Almost. In order to save $40 I had chosen to fly with Cubana, the Cuban state airline. As I ducked into the ancient plane the first thing that hit me was the fact that all the signs were in what looked at first like Greek and English. A few seconds later I realised that this was in fact of course Russian. Nice. The plane was incredibly hot, as the air conditioning doesn´t work until the engine was on. Vedado, La Habana, Cuba, Caribbean Sea, Western Hemisphere, The World WOW!!! That is about the only way to start talking about La Habana. My flight from Cancun landed around 5:20 EST in Habana on Monday. The flight itself was quite an experience alone. I believe the plane was purchased in a garage sale from Slovakia. As the air condition kicked on the cabin filled with white fumes which seemed to worry no one on the plane. The flight itself was not so bad, but as we landed the entire cabin boomed with cheers of joy. We´re we not supposed to land, what was expected in this landing that not crashing was celebrated to such extremes. Regardless of what it meant, I was just happy to be on the ground. Hi everybody, our trip is finally underway after months of waiting! we're in havana still at the moment and have had real trouble getting onto a reliable internet connection. it seems to be a bit like the water electricity and generally everything else in this respect. Tom has managed to lose his credit card already however it is hopefully all sorted now. Suggestion for other travellers here...don't lose your cards! Weĺl post a better blog when we can and will add some photoś. All is well, its been really interesting and we've been scuba diving, to a cuban jazz cafe and drinking loads of mojito's and Bucanero's!
