Captain Mark Corn's Cabinas-Tropicales
After spending five wonderful days at Cabinas Jimenez we moved over to Cabinas Tropicales. Thanks to Bernardo, our every helpful taxi driver for getting us moved from one place to another. Robert had gotten his card when we first arrived in Puerto Jimenez and he has ferried us back and forth to dinner so we can let Laura's ankle ease into serious walking.
Cabinas Tropicales is near the airport and is surrounded by lush vegetation both on the edges and inside the property as well. Because of this, there are quite a few birds moving through the gardens. Mark also puts out papaya, bananas, watermelon and pineapple. Must say after observation they are partial to the papaya and bananas!
We met Mark four years ago when we were going to Las Palmas on a regular basis and he was in there a lot visiting one of the girls that worked there. We have stayed in touch and when he opened his place we visited with him has year and enjoyed the place and decided to come again.
The rooms all have private bathrooms and A/C which are quite welcome in this weather. We had one of the rooms with
an open air bathroom and so you could watch parrots in the palm tree while you were in the shower. Sorry, did not have the camera in there as well.
His place has a nice commons area with a well equipped kitchen for all to use as well as places to sit and visit. Had some nice visits with some of the other guests that were staying there. One night, I decided to grill some zucchini squash and Owen, from England decided to grill as well. We had a nice evening visiting with him, another girl from England, one from New Zealand who are all studying at UC Santa Barbara. We also heard tales from two guys from Canada who had just returned from Osa Corcovado.
This year he also has bikes you can use so it has been a great place to hang out for a week while waiting for the "bits and pieces" for Robert's dental work to come in. On top of it being a great place to stay, it is a great place for people going into Osa Corcovado to get information, store luggage, and visit with others who have been before.
