Do you know the way out of San Jose?

Finally! Leaving the grim sweatbucket that is San Jose behind in a trail of bus dust, Rich and I forged towards the megalopolis of Jaco on the coast. To my dismay I found it to be a dingy , uncomfortable place full of seedy locals trying to sell cocaine on every corner. As Rich was still recovering from his bout of what was apparently tonsilitis (according to the obese Dr. Jose Jiminez), we decided just to chill out for a day or two before moving on. Wow that couldn't have come soon enough!

We decided a place further down the coast called Manuel Antonio should be our next destination, but on the way we spotted a small village called Esterillos de Oeste and made a last second dash for the bus door to see what the village had to offer. It turned out to be a real gem of a place with friendly locals, cheap cabinas and some daunting surf.
We came across a small accomodation owned by some friendly Texan surfers who had no beds for us but invited us over for a card game called Caddilac and some delicious Texan chilli. Rich spent the last 3 days teaching me how to get out back of the waves and, after the waves taught me to respect them by smashing me around mecilessly, i finally caught my first wave this morning at roughly 6am 😊 Just as i turned around to paddle back out, 8 huge brown speckled pelicans swooped low over the water infront of me. It was, in the parlance of our times, awesome 😊

In Quepos now b4 heading to Manuel Antonio,
Hope you're all working hard 😉
