Edit Blog Post
I am going to start off this blog with telling everyone that i can not spell for the life of me. Sorry if you run into some grammatical errors or mis-spellings. Its just how i am. lol.
Alrighty so we left last night at about 6:30pm to go to LAX. After being denied for 2 flights (we were flying stand by, thanks to my amazing Aunt Pam) we were the last passengers to be boarded on the last flight of the night to Dallas Texas, and from there we were to catch a flight to San Jose Costa Rica. Once we arrived in Dallas at about 5:30 am (thats 3:30 in California) we were told that the flight we wanted was not a direct flight. It goes from Dallas to Miami, to Costa Rica. Out of all the 4 airports that we visited Dallas was my favorite. It was big and had some neat architecture. It also had food locations that were open 24hrs, which was nice for Myles and i since we hadn't eaten since departing for LAX. Well, we left from Dallas to Miami at like 7:30 am (5:30 CA time) and arrived at MIA at 10:00am. during
this flight we finally got a little shut-eye. I think at that point it was definitely time to sleep at least a little. we were both draggin ass. lol. we left from Miami at about 12:30.
FINALLY arrived in Costa Rica at about 1pm. I was really worried about the airport and what it would be like not really being able to speak Spanish, but we were able to find a cabbie relatively easy. I wasn't very impressed with San Jose. I thought for the capitol it would have been a little nicer. It was pretty dirty and the poverty level was pretty substantial. The cabbie was a crazy driver, but we got to the bus stop in one piece. With Myles' little bit of Spanish we were able to buy our tickets and get to the correct terminal. We had just missed the last bus (it left at 2pm and we got there are like 2:30.) so we had to wait for the next available, which left San Jose at 4pm. At the bus station we met some really nice girls from Norway, who were going to the same town as us. They had just come from a
month vacation in Africa, they were going to Costa Rica, then to Cuba, and then to the US. LUCKY! I forgot to mention, as soon as our plane touched down at San Jose it started POURING rain, and i mean cats and dogs. So through the cab ride, and bus ride it continued to rain on and off. Its funny, the bus ride was longer and we had less space, but i think because Myles and i were so happy to be out of the planes, it seemed nice and cushie. lol. The scenery was beautiful. I think we must have passed over at least 20 rivers on our way. We got to see a lot of Costa Rica on the bus ride to Puerto Viejo, and it was an interesting time. Around 5:00pm i started to worry because the sun started going down and we didn't know exactly were the house was that we were staying at, so we thought we would have to walk down strange dirt roads in Costa Rica at night. (which thankfully was not the case) Since this was not a very desirable option, we decided to try and get a cab in Puerto Viejo
to take us to our new home. This was actually also, surprisingly easy. We got off the bus at about 7:30pm and waiting at the bus stop were 4 or 5 cabs, so we grabbed one and tried to communicate exactly where we wanted to go. Thanks again to Myles we were able to get to the house (its about a 5 minute drive from town and a 20 min walk.) The roads are horrible. Because of all the pot holes, riding in the cab was almost like getting a massage. 😉
When we got to the house, a nice neighbor named Ken met us at the gate to let us in and give us the keys. Our gate here leading to the property is beautiful and we are literally steps front he beach, but at night of course this all looked sinister and primitive. Once we got the locks on the house open we walked in side and on my way to the bathroom i almost stepped on a scorpion. Which Myles and i promptly introduced to the bottom on my shoe. Through out the house (because it hadn't been lived in in a couple of weeks and because it was raining outside) we found a wide variety of native bugs. Huge ants, scorpions, millipedes, little spiders, and what we believe are earth worms. we disposed of them all, took a shower and fell asleep to the sounds of rain on the plastic tile roof (it was loud but we were so tired it didn't even matter.) So ends our first day in Costa Rica, our conclusions so far are: LOTS of bugs, pretty, very green, lush, but sad to see the primitive housing here (excluding our own), and the people are very very nice, which was awesome. Good night, we will write again tomorrow.
