Costumes
From the left: Mike, Leah, Jared Wow, this is just crazy...here we are with less than 2 weeks of class left and the final week of exams and we are done. This past week I had my final exam in tropical ecology and it was a doozy. It was an open book exam and we could use any of our notes. Out of 10 or 12 questions we had to answer 7 of them, and we had three hours to complete them in short essay format. The questions were really specific and not all the answers were in the books and lectures which was frustrating...however its done! All of us walked out of the exam feeling like our brains had been turned into mush and pulverized.
That exam was on Thursday, and the following day we had a huge fiesta with all of the groups in Costa Rica attending. One of the roads was closed due to another landslide so the group from Puntareneas had to travel 2.5 hours to reach the party when it normally takes about 1 to 1.5 hours by bus. They ended up going through San Jose and backtracking halfway to reach San Ramon. However most of the participants were at the
Obamas!
My friend Nick and his tica girlfriend went as the Obamas party. It was kind of interesting because each group had different expectations of what the party was going to be. Puntareneas came with the expectation that it was going to actually be in the town of San Ramon, when in reality it was held at a nearby farm rented out. Heredia came with the notion that it was a huge soccer tournament and had jerseys made and came ready with shin guards and cleats. San Ramon came thinking it was a costume party and everybody had different costumes on. Some of my friends came dressed as a man (she used honey and ground coffee grounds to make a beard), another came dressed as Michelle Obama (a guy) and his girlfriend was Barack.
The party lasted for about 8.5 hours starting at noon and ending at about 830pm. We got burritos for lunch and I forget what for dinner. It was very humid that day so a lot of people ended up taking quick dips in a nearby river that was kinda shallow but cooled people off. The whole time of the party people played soccer, especially in the beginning parts it was a huge game going. However for most
All sorts of people
Some people from each of the 3 groups eating of the party people were dancing the latin dances that we had learned. I was sweating so much due to the heat, and wearing jeans, plus the dancing and the fast movements. We danced probably for close to 5 hours or more! It was amazing exercise for sure. At the end of the party we celebrated Claudia, my director's birthday with a lovely cake.
The next two days were very relaxing and enjoyable, I was able to cook for myself due to my mom going to a reunion with her family so that was very nice! A little tv, a little hw, and talking with my brother completed the weekend. It seems so strange that I'm almost done...I really dont want to leave yet and it feels like I've just started the program...however at the same time I'm ready to go home and get up to college again. It's very bitter-sweet and I know I will miss a lot of things about San Ramon and Costa Rica. This next week is Thanksgiving break here and some friends are going down to Nicaragua but I'm probs going down to my beach house with the family and perhaps a few friends

some people swam briefly after playing soccer to stay and relax.
