GREETINGS FROM SEA
This Canadian pine stands in the Regent Explorer atrium. On December 7 we boarded the Regent Seven Seas Explorer in Miami for a Western Caribbean cruise. This is the first time we have cruised on the Explorer, the first new ship built by Regent since the Voyager was launched in 2003. A lot has changed in ship building in the intervening years. Dining options have expanded for most cruise lines and the ships have expanded as well. Regent did increase the size of this ship but decided to stick with a successful model which called for a maximum of 750 passengers, housed in large, luxurious suites and all equipped with balconies. They have added an Asian themed restaurant to compliment their noted French restaurant, a stunning steak house and an Italian cafe. They also offer a casual poolside venue as well as a grand dining room. It was fun exploring the new layout and marveling at the stunning decor. Just the chandeliers alone are exquisite works of art. And since it’s the holiday season, garlands and richly decorated trees add to the festive atmosphere.
Because of her added length and width, the Explorer has space for a Culinary Arts Kitchen where guests can take classes and prepare dishes at
individual cooking stations. They have also greatly enhanced their Serene Spa and wellness center where they offer every imaginable type of pampering, work-out and beauty care.
Like last year, this itinerary covers the Western Caribbean, starting with Grand Cayman, then the Mexican ports of Cozumel and Costa Maya. We’ll have a day at Harvest Caye in Belize and then on to the other Central American countries of Guatemala and Honduras. Our last port of call is Key West before disembarking in Miami. We were originally scheduled to have an overnight in Cuba, but last June the U.S. Government prohibited cruise ships from calling in Havana. This was a big disappointment to many as Cuba was a very popular destination for cruisers. Regent quickly organized this new itinerary as an fine alternative.
Regent offers an all-inclusive product which is quite unique in the cruise industry. Free and unlimited shore excursions are available in every port around the world. On board, all the dining venues are included as well as complimentary beverages. Everything from fancy coffee drinks to fine wines and spirits are on the house, or should I say on the ship? Even tipping is included. Our favorite new

SAILING OUT OF MIAMI
We had a beautiful sail away on the pool deck with a champagne reception and Dixieland jazz band.enhancement is the infinity pool located at the stern of the ship. So you can be floating in a sparkling pool at sail-away while enjoying the view of one of the great cities of the world receding into the distance as you’re heading out to sea on this lovely nautical hotel.
