Geo: 23.5191, -75.7559 January 14th, 2015 - We're in the Bahamian Cruising Mecca!Hello all,Hope this email finds you well. How are things with each of you?We are now in Georgetown, Great Exuma, AKA the Bahamian Cruising Mecca. The day we arrived, about 50 other boats also came in. Everyone was keen to get here before the winds picked up. At last count a few days ago, there are presently 199 boats here and more arrive every day. Since we've been here, the weather has been a bit crazy. Winds have been up, squalls have blown through, and in between, we've had some lovely sunny days playing in the water and on the beach. This really is an "adult playground". Because it is high season, there is a very active Cruiser's Net every morning on the VHF ... read more

May 29th, 2014 – Georgetown / Stocking Island…Take Two! Hello again from Georgetown (GGT)This is my 2nd time entering the Georgetown Harbour and Tony's 3rd time during this trip. Tony, of course spent a lot more time here while the boys visited in March. We've been here since last Thursday. Several of you did see our track entering the harbor from about Emerald Bay onward. Today, we moved from Stocking Island to the "town" side of the harbor to make it a shorter, drier, and easier dinghy ride when doing laundry and groceries. You should be able to see our track again today crossing the harbour. The tracking station is ... read more

We planned a vacation from CA and narrowed our options down to either Curacao, Belize or the Bahamas and opted for the Bahamas. Phase II of operation vacation was which island to visit, I knew that Nassau and NP were out of the question but the deeper I looked the more islands I found to visit in the Bahamas. After some whittling we came down to Bimini, Eluthera and Exuma and eventually settled on the latter. Exuma did not disappoint (other than some rain) and during our visit we stayed outside of Georgetown and visited local beaches, Stocking Island and did the Cay tour to the north of the island. We had a great time on this very relaxed and slow paced island (restaurants closed at 9:30 pm) just milling about and seeing what we could ... read more

We awoke early and had breakfast and then I went to see if I could get a ride to the market to buy some more beverages. The Condo owner threw me his keys and said go for it! How cool is that? Luckily I have driven on the "wrong" side of the road when I was in South Africa, so no issues there. I went the few miles to the market and made my purchases and then when I arrived back at the condo, we went to lunch at Augusta Bay. We were a little tired of getting too much sun. It is very strong down there and we had a little too much the previous days. Our lunch was good, but not as good as the dinners that we had at Augusta Bay. We finally ... read more

We slept in today, then had some breakfast, before heading out to the beach. On our way to the beach, we met a family who had relocated to Exuma for the simple island life. They were super nice and fun to chat with. They said I could go on their boat with them that afternoon if I wanted to. We were on the beach a few hours, before walking back to the condo for lunch. Sadly, my tooth began to act up. Before our trip, I had some oral surgery done, and it was giving me fits. We went back to the beach later on and I told the family that I would not go on the boat due to my tooth. I wished I had though because we saw them when they returned, and they ... read more

We went to Exuma in July of 2011 and really fell in love with the place. It is so quiet and relaxing. It is sort of like having your own private island and beach. The beaches are amazing and the water is so clear. It was so nice to be back! We immediately felt at home as we went through customs and immigration. We caught a taxi to our condo, which is the same condo we stayed at last trip. It is called Sapphire Garden Townhomes. They are closed on Sunday, but like last time, they said they would leave the condo open for us. They also would stock the refrigerator with some drinks. We were dropped off in front of the unit and were a little nervous. You see, last time they had a sign ... read more
