For too many years worklife had me confined to commuter trains, desks and meeting rooms. And all the while the urge to travel - constrained by the annual leave allowance and frustrated in the knowledge that the years were relentlessly ticking by - was extending my list of coveted destinations.
In our youth we have a sense of immortality and we naively believe that the Earth's gems are laid out for us to visit, plunder, experience and repeat at will over an infinite lifetime. But age and wisdom eventually conspire, reality dawns and mild panic ensues. There's a very big world out there and I've seen far too little of it.
And so I withdrew from paid employment in 2017 with a simple plan to travel as frequently and widely as possible. Adding some cycling, running and trekking endeavours into the mix would also hopefully preserve at least an illusion of youth.
wontpassthiswayagain is an ongoing project to record and present highlights of recent travels, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and post-worklife adventures. Hopefully it also brings some order and context to the shed load of travel images that end up residing haphazardly on various digital devices and storage media.
