MOSCOW - The Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and
Welfare, which is investigating the incident, was cited as saying that a
total of 301 foreign and Russian construction workers have now been
hospitalized in Moscow and its environs with food poisoning.
All the patients are suffering similar symptoms: high temperature, nausea,
vomiting and diarrhea. The patients are largely in a satisfactory condition,
but some have contracted a severe form of a "food bacterial poisoning," the
service said.
Earlier reports said the workers could have contracted Salmonella poisoning,
a potentially lethal infection that affects the gastrointestinal system.
The service said food delivered for the workers was to blame, but added the
source of the infection was still to be specified.
On Tuesday, when the first patients arrived in hospitals, the workers were
served breakfasts and lunches - soft-boiled eggs, meat sandwiches, rice with
lamb and carrots, onions and spices, and a salad - cooked by a private firm.
The service also said the workers had their meals served in improper
sanitary conditions, adding that, "Numerous violations of sanitary rules for
cooking have been revealed during the investigation."
Be careful! Thanks for the post!
That is their belief Honestly, you are correct and that is their thought process. Why refrigerate for only a few months out of the year? I keep running into that at the plant. We do not use refer trucks because by this time next month, it will be cold and we do not need to spend the money.
hey have you found a shop that sells fur coats and hats yet? :-) That meat market sounds like a place I want to avoid. Well good news that a package is on the way to you with your volley ball gear.. and a few other goodies. Mark and I covered most of the stores in Gainesville and be sure to ask him about the courteous and helpful US postal employees :-) Look forward to hearing about Moscow!
Russia is extremely concerned about "things" and "chemicals" that you can't see everyday. It is in the makeup of their thought process. I can't blame them.
Providing secure data will assist. Continue to break down the barriers.
..Love you and miss you!
Never There is no way I could give up meat all together, no matter how bad. You can find some in certain markets that does not look too bad, but not sure I am ready to buy from the open meat markets.
keep it up! Love reading about the cultural differences and how you're adapting! It's a whole other world, even in what we consider here to be an industrialized, modern country. Keep up the posts!
meat The smells of all the different meats together in one place incubating all day sounds like enough to make you want to swear off meat. Have you thought about turning vegetarian yet?
Nice, but Rainy It is actually very nice here right now. It is in the mid to lower 70's during the day and upper 50's to lower 60's at night so great sleeping weather.
You know me, I could only bite my tongue for so long!
Things Have Not Changed in Obninsk I can tell you but the looks of things here, things have not changed in many years. I just found out today, we (Elinar-Broiler) found three soldiers, gear and all, in the ground as we were moving ground to build new houses.

finally It actually took longer than I thought it would for the old Vince to have to show himself! lol Besides - you can vent all you want - it's your blog. How's the weather there now? We're still between 105-110 here in Louisiana and we're miserable!
maybe you should just have Olga look up the word Chiuahah (sp the dog) and then she will know how to deliver your messages. :-) Looks like you have been taking in some great sites! Not much new here, got a little rain yesterday and it has coole down to the mid 80's. all the postings are great!
Take care.. Ricky
pictures What gorgeous pictures! Finally, one of you there too, now I can place you there amid all the history of Moscow. Those towers and buildings look absolutely huge. Glad to see you're not spending your every waking moment at the plant whipping them into shape. How many days a week are you working?
wow How interesting things are so quickly there for you. Reading all of this almost makes me feel as if I'm there and understanding what is going on and your frustration at not being able to find things. What a whole different world it must be for you. I think I would've already been on a plane heading home with my tail between my legs. Keep writing, every post is great to read!!
Pictures Okay, now we need some pictures with YOU in them there. For some reason I can't seem to see you anywhere there yet... :-) The pictures are great and it looks like you have a lot of exploring to do but just beware of going into someplace you don't check out ahead of time. Miss you!
Glad to know the fan trick is helping to dry your clothes. And thanks for the list of needs. I'll be shipping a box to you this week. St. Basil's Cathedral looks amazing! The colors are spectacular. Very grooooovy, baby. Check out what I found...http://www.gorodperm.ru/en/sif.asp. You MUST attend next year and send lots of pics.
Glad you have met people outside of work because the real kicker may be your adjustment to the........"Fresh Side" of the business. Good luck!!! E-mail me if you need me, I owe you a few!!!
Miss you!
Dear Kenny, Your journal is wonderful and your photographs are amazing! You are a great photographer. You seem to have so many talents. I hope your adventure contiues to be a safe and great experience! Love, Aunt Martha
how scary but exciting I can't even imagine what it would be like not being able to talk to people - especially you! lol It looks like you have a nice place there and I'm sure it will be much nicer once you can add all your things and make it like home. I just got home from my yearly trip to Illinois for our family reunion and am now trying to catch up on your travels. It's so good to hear what is happening and that you are doing alright despite the shopping and diet problems. Pretty soon they'll become second nature though and you won't even notice it was ever a problem. Keep posting and know that you are missed.
I changed my portrait from my lastest picture from Tokyo where I saw ZED by Cirque du Soleil and even go to meet ZED.
Summer has pasted and now it is winter here in cold dark (short days with little sunshine) Russia. For those that did not hear, I signed on for another year so I will be living here in Obninsk until January 2009.
It is finally summer here in Russian so thought I would change the picture. Enjoy the stories, adventures, blunders, etc. as I live and work in Russia.
I do not want to loose any of my emails and stories, so I am just going to add to this existing one. ... full info
