Ear muffs for everyone I love waking up to call to prayer. The bells would be a nice touch. I would love staying there. We need to follow in your footsteps as this drive sounds fantastic. So much to see...so little time.
Ear Muff indeed! I loved having the call to prayer in Turkey it somehow gave the message that the world is still going and all is well, the bells are lovely just not a 6am! The scenery is amazing and well worth the drive from Greece all the way through to Italy for the coastline but the countryside and mountains are equally incredible.
It's amazing The views are tremendous, the route on the bus yesterday to our new destination was even better, part of me wishes we were doing this by car so we could stop and admire a bit more.
Wow--The Throne! I've seen a couple of those TV shows, and I knew it was filmed in Dubrovnik, but the real throne--how amazing! And isn't the island such a sweet day trip out of the tourist hordes! Love that view of Dubrovnik from there.
We've never seen it! We have the books but never watched the program, the videos from the cast and crew were interesting and we kept going 'been there' :) The Island was lovely and a nice chance to get away from the crowds.
How times change Dubrovnik a jewel for travellers. but it was not always so. When my father was there in Yugoslavia days he used to say there was an omnipresence, a heaviness of control that made the hairs on his neck stand on end. How times change...looks charming these days Jo.
Big changes indeed I always wanted to go to Yugoslavia but my travel at the time was centred more round the Greek islands and then of course the war started. I can imagine what your Father meant though and it's something that we have talked about as we walk the beautiful streets that many of the older residents would have lived through times that were so different.
We nearly didn't! it was a big decision and none of us felt really up for it but were so glad we did....not sure I would have made the steps up and back mind, they seem to play more on my knee that scrambling over rocks...maybe I was a goat in a former life!
Your so kind I think your adventures are probably more inspiring for me! But they are wonderful places and if we could lose the tourists they would be fab....but then that wouldn't be could for their economy!
Wonderful Montenegro! Love these ancient buildings that seem to grow out of the bedrock! I loved Montenegro--everyone just goes to Dubrovnik and misses this sweet country. You all are really going on the roads less traveled--very fun.
The road less travelled is usually the most interesting one! It was a real delight and we were sad to go, Dubrovnik is next on the list however having had a couple of days in Kotor :)

A truly multi-national mammoth that travels the world visiting places of interest, making new friends and causing mischief wherever he can. With my carer Jo (bless her!) I have scaled castle walls, walked in the footsteps of Roman Emperors and Maharajah's, climbed mountains, contemplated caverns, caves and canyons and attempted the Le Mans 24 hour race on a skateboard! Whether it be climbing a Minaret in Mostar, Paddling in the Arabian Sea, Scaling mountains in Kotor, Feeding chickens in France or Catching trains in India, not... full info
