We arrived in Jodphur (the city that gave its name to the riding trousers) and settled into a lovely guest house, decorated with carpets, silks and lots of outdoor cushions in the courtyard. Finally ventured out into the city late in the evening. After swearing we never wanted to see another fort again, we decided to go and see the Meherangarh fort, for its views if nothing else (see photo). However the fort was amazing, and an audio tour was provided which (a) has lots of interesting anecdotes and (b) meant there were no touts to avoid. There are orange hand prints by the wall of the final gate (see photo). These were put there by widows of Maharaja Singh during his funeral procession.
