Patagonian tricks Nice to hear from you two! Hope you make it down here--it's a beautiful but harsh world. Indeed, you need a few tricks to survive. And yes, the adventure continues....
A world well traveled You've seen it all. I imagine you've seen more of South American than anyone. I'm thinking they might hire you to update their maps. Simply amazing.
Oh my-- Stunning The blues and greens blend into something superb! Whipped by the wind and rain....reminds me of a couple of days on the Irish coast. ha! Even so we love traveling off season. Photo fantastic once again.
Known for spitting Every time I read one of your blogs I think "gosh we've got to add that to our list" I'm beginning to think we may have to move to South America the way you have because there is so much to do. Love it. Please keep the stories coming.
Teacher need to teach! Love it when you give us historical data to broaden our horizons on an area. Love the colors and the plaza looks wonderful. I'm a pet person so glad to see the pup. You could easily get a job teaching a graduate course on South America. Happy travels.
Rough, rugged and remote We are eager to see this part of the world! The bus ride sounded dreary but it is part of seeing the world. I'm sure I would have been throwing up in the back. Thanks goodness the snow gods were forgiving. They must have assumed you could not read and helped you out. :) Oh, the old hair trick....good for you. Glad the adventures continue.
Cold blues Indeed, David, those were some cold blues, but so beautiful. I certainly do feel lucky to have had the time to embrace, explore and have wild adventures in that amazing place. Wonder what the Dancing Duo did down there?
Ahhh This pic shows the colours I remember...the blues a bit colder than in warmer climes. The bottom of the World...nice you could spend the time to embrace it.
Wild and wonderful! Dear Heidi, I'm glad you liked those wild escapades from the end of the earth, and how great that you and Steven had some of your own. Brilliant to get out of town for the eclipse, and how lucky to see whales at El Capitan. Happy camping!
wonderful wild stories Dear Tara,
Love your wonderful and wild stories from Tierra del Fuego, esp. about the Yamana and their seal lion suits. On a much more mild and local note, this week Steven and I camped at El Capitan to catch the full moon lunar eclipse and a close glimpse of three gray whales on their way to Alaska.
Best wishes,
Heidi
Thanks, Ren. Actually, in Rome, I volunteered with an organization that was neutering cats, and it was so absurd to have men come up and berate us for taking away their manhood. One bad bus ride coming up...
Yes, PA has everything! Glad you remembered, too, my Patagonian brother, the wonder of Punta Arenas, since it seems so many others just breeze through this lovely city. Ethereal hues and even cloudy days are sweet in Patagonia.
Thanks Roger! I'm glad you enjoyed the historical tidbits--I'm never sure if I put people to sleep with these. The colors were a stroke of luck in that cloudy land. So happy you liked them.
Always remembered Seems that Punta Arenas has everything...incredible sunsets...views to the end of the world...and fabulous resting places to enjoy it from. Thanks for the historical accounts...and as always the etherial hues that colour memories of the wilds & wonders of Patagonia.
Amazing! I never cease to thoroughly enjoy your blog. You are educating me. Your photography is superb and the colours you have been able to capture, magnificent. Thank you.
Roger
The most beautiful place in the World Gotta disagree with National Geographic. Torres del Paine is the most beautiful place in the World. Only those who go there know the view from this lodge on Lake Peho...you captured the backdrop in this shot...the view from the front is the ultimate. What a fabulous time for you to be there...Autumn...braver than me!!! Fabulous pics as always.
So many most beautifuls in the world! Clearly you, Mr. Lucky Duck, were there when it was warmer and clearer! I saw the fine view from the front of the lodge, but its photo, like so many, was cloudy and unsharable. Can hardly wait to see your shots of the real magnificence of the park!
I´m a one-way ticket, slow traveler, relishing the freedom of the open road and trusting serendipity to guide my journey. When I was younger, I used to travel for a year at a time. Then a few years ago, I roamed Europe and North Africa for three and a half years and liked that even better.
On August 1st, 2010, I left my peaceful Mission Canyon paradise in Santa Barbara's mellow summer and emerged from a couple of planes a day and a world later in the teeming, sub-zero streets of Buenos Aires´winter. Now, with the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos between here and home, will three years be enou... full info
