Dancing with icebergs Great shot I presume of Spegnazzini with a Glacier wall over 100 metres tall...speeding between icebergs at breakneck speed...every shape and size. Gotta agree the Upsala Cruise is a Do Not Miss. The way Argentina and Chile manage their National Parks and make them accessible to tourism is a lesson to the rest of the world...and as usual you are there to enjoy them...lucky Tara.
Dancing with icebergs, indeed! It did feel like that, David, as we wafted together and past each other--a beautiful dance. Yes, this is probably Spegnazzini though the other bergs at about 60 meters were pretty formidable, too. I must say that visiting parks is a highlight of any journey--lucky me, indeed. I look forward to your blog on these big bergs!
Great Pictures, Great Story Oh Tara, this brought back memories of doing the same glacier trip. Your pictures are amazing. It was nice to look at them and hear your voice in my head as I read your blog. Icebergs often remind me of cotton candy with their color and unusual shapes.
Cotton candy bergs That's a great image, Brendan! I'm so glad you got to do this cruise, and that we got to meet so you could hear my voice in my head! Thanks for commenting!
Bravo! Spectacular photographs! Beautifully written. Loved what you said about sunsets, "...and I almost understood why people arise for them." I'm not a morning person either. Lol.
Wow This is one of the most stunning glacier/nature photos I've seen! Great photography, Tara. You must have discovered some new shades of blue here. ;)
Shades of blue Indeed, Michelle, so many blues and amazing shapes, I was quite willing to freeze my tail off! Thanks so much for your compliments for my photos.
Day trips from Chillan Hi there, thanks for the info in your blog. I just wondered if you could clarify - how easy is it to do day-trips to Shangrila and laja falls from Chillan itself? Is it just something we can just rock up in Chillan and sort out or do we need to book in advance? Thanks!
easy day trips Shangrila is a fab day trip--catch one of many the buses from near the mercado--make sure to learn when the last one is. Waterfalls trickier--bus from the terminal; I ended up staying there about 8 hours because of bus times, but i still loved it. Enjoy!
I'M PLEASED I ATE THE CALAFATE BERRIES I've eaten the calafate berries. I know by that act I am bound to return to Patagonia. But when viewing the scenery...breathing in the memories from your fabulous pictures Tara...I don't need to eat the berries to know I'd be mad not to go back.
Beautiful Photos! This was an amazing place when we visited back in 2005 but now it has been transformed into a smorgasbord of colour! Thanks so much for sharing.
Color shift? I'm glad you got to visit this gem, but how curious that the colors haven't always been so brilliant. Makes me wonder about the original--hmm.
A witch, for sure! Indeed, I've always had an admiration of witches as well as a morbid fascination with the Inquisition. I'm sure I went up a puff of smoke.
I´m a one-way ticket, slow traveler, relishing the freedom of the open road and trusting serendipity to guide my journey. When I was younger, I used to travel for a year at a time. Then a few years ago, I roamed Europe and North Africa for three and a half years and liked that even better.
On August 1st, 2010, I left my peaceful Mission Canyon paradise in Santa Barbara's mellow summer and emerged from a couple of planes a day and a world later in the teeming, sub-zero streets of Buenos Aires´winter. Now, with the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos between here and home, will three years be enou... full info
