Big Foot
Mike, I didn't think about Big Foot (scary thought!) but it did occur to me that any creature that leaves LOTS of big piles along the road is not a creature that I want to meet while I'm taking photos! Dad

Scott, Good point! I need to remember to stop when I reach Vancouver! Jack
18th September 2009

Sounds like you'll be back in time for some 90 degree weather at home. (BTW- That's BigFoot crap on the road. Don't stop to take pics!)

Terry (from Alaska) was worried you were going to get hit by a winter storm. He said winter comes fast in Alaska. Glad you escaped! Love Sis Wendy

Good Day!
Jack, it looks like a fun day on the trail....regarding the "Entering Portland" sign....if you see that you have gone to far!!!
17th September 2009

Sure am enjoying this. Just caught up a few days worth. How long did you plan this? Are you always this thorough? Love the commentary and pics. A grand adventure to be shared. Love Carole

The Last Resort
I like it! The place was a real dive. Dad
16th September 2009

Maybe this is where the term "last resort" came from? :)

thank you!
Your journal today was the biggest chuckle of my whole day!! Gets pretty scary out in that big old world sometimes:) Love dani

glacier rock
I tried to find a date on the rock but couldn't find one. All I found was "Made in China". :-) The rock is probably as old as the earth and has been buried under the ice for many thousands of years until the glacier scooped it up and left it for Kirk this Spring.

North Pole
Yep, it's the southern one! Lot's of people send stuff there at Christmas time to get the North Pole cancellation stamp put on their letters and packages.
14th September 2009

wow!!
How old is the glacier rock? miss you jack!
14th September 2009

Great glacier pics. Is that the "Southern" North Pole?
13th September 2009

Surprised you're still shaving. Thought you'd be all Grizzly Adams by now ;-)
12th September 2009

WE MISS YOU TOO!!
What an awesome adventure, but were glad you are heading back tomorrow! Big love Kirky, Jenny and big Dan:)

mooses
Scott, Mama moose definitely was giving me the eye. Next time I'll be more cautious. Good to hear from you and glad that you're following the blog! Later! Jack

Jack, Sounds like a good day but next time you see something move of your left about 30 yards in the Alaskan woods.....keep it moving!!! LOL

Tip Top Shape!
I'm talking about YOU, son! Because the main gate to the State Park was closed you had to park a half mile away and then walk UPHILL to get to the mine site - - - and then you hiked on Gold Cord Trail "up a steep mountain" - - - followed by another hike on April Bowl Trail -- and all ON THE SAME DAY! Wow! Did you hire a trainer to get ready for this adventure? Your Mom is impressed! Lots of love!

It must be getting too cold for the "Cubic Compass" cap. Maybe it'll re-emerge in pics on the way back :-)

John Fogerty was only 92% of CCR... not 98% ;-)
7th September 2009

Sounds like the Skagway customs inspector had the same question I did. "You’re driving this car on vacation?" "To Alaska?" :-)
7th September 2009

Definitely your best side! ;-)
Are you shooting jpgs or something like Camera Raw? When you get all finished and pick your most, mostest favorite, send it on in the highest possible resolution. Niels bought a new 'toy' and it will print up to 44" wide and however long. He did a 40" x 11' photo panorama just to try it out, pic from our Grand Canyon trip this spring. I'll make you a BIG picture! ;-) hht

Hey Jack, is it true you can see Russia from Alaska?? Anyway, glad to see you are hitting some good weather and enjoying the trip!! Be safe!

Nice meeting you Jack
Jack, it was really nice meeting you. I hope you are having a wonderful trip. Everyone knows it is the people that makes the difference. I hope you have a safe trip back and that we can meet up again before you leave. Peace, Mike AKMC Anch Rep
