Great Trip!
I lived in Dease Lake for a year back in 2005 and setup www.DeaseLake.net. Reading your post made me miss driving this highway several times. It is certainly very rough in places but one beautiful drive! While I don't have any particular desire to move back to Dease Lake, I certainly miss that part of the country, and can't wait to hit the road one of these days and drive through again. Your note on the "Crazy Trapper" in the Yukon reminded me of a small diner at the Junction (HWY 37 & Alaska HWY). Very small place with interesting people - and amazing breakfast! If you have any great photos from Dease Lake in particular, please stop by my site and upload a photo from the photos page!

sleeping
My wife and I plan to ferry this June for 17 days. We will stay in towns along the way. We are trying to decide whether to take out two man tent to camp on the ferry or sleep in the lounge chairs. What is your opinion. We will be living out of out backpacks.

Thanks for Sharing
I accidentally came across your blog this evening while researching info for a friend who just purchased a 99 Miata. You did a great job sharing your experiences. It make me want to plan such a trip. Again, thanks for being an inspiration. John S. Columbus, OH

And more, and more........
Hello there! I just happen to stumble on your blog through random searches. I just moved back to Colorado from Juneau, AK(GORGEOUS place), and am looking at the possibility of going back to Alaska at some point, possibly Canada. I couldn't help but to breathtakingly notice your pics above titled more, more, more, and more............you know the ones! :) How close to Palmer were you when you took these?? I wouldn't mind one bit making a move near this area! Did you see Skagway and Haines? What's your take? I'd be curious of your opinion of the places... Thanks so much, and thank you for posting such beautiful photographs that spurred my writing to you! Jessica

Thanks for sharing your trip!
Hi Jack, Saw the summary of your trip on Miata.net (Miata of the Month, congrats and much deserved). Was so nice exeriencing your trip vicariously through this blog. I live in New Jersey, where all roads are flat and straight and crowded (Miata Purgatory), and I work like a dog, so taking a trip like that is a dream of mine. Doing it in a Miata had to make it so much more fun and "immersing", there is just something about being out in the open. Your trip is helping me take a step back and look at things differently, I need to start LIVING! Thanks again for posting the blog!!!

Nice Blog and Pictures!
Hi Jack, Thank you for writing this blog about your adventure to Alaska and back! It is truly an awe-inspiring story and has many beautiful pictures. I used to live in Alaska in my pre-teen years (Ft. Richardson right outside of Anchorage) and can relate to all of the picturesque scenes and wildlife that you have come across. I've been wanting to go back and bring my family with me so that they too can see what untouched nature truly looks like. I currently live right across the Hudson river from NYC in New Jersey and can honestly say that there is not a whole lot of untouched nature in the area. My wife is from the area and has never really been on a vacation that was based on nature as opposed to man made objects and attractions. However, after viewing the pictures in your blog and reading your stories she is really interested in going on a trip. Thanks for kindling her fascination as I am sure without this blog she would never have believed me about the beauty that nature beholds! On a side note, there is a picture in your blog on day 22 in which you took a picture with the sun just starting to light the horizon with the moon and a star blazing steadily in the sky. I think that is a beautiful picture and was wondering if it would be possible if you could send me the original. I think it would make a beautiful background for my computer desktop. Please also feel free to include any other pictures of scenes that you feel are great (by seeing your choice in photos there seem to be tons of them). After a hard days work in the concrete jungle I enjoy coming home and viewing these types of pictures on my computer to remind me that not everywhere is made out of concrete and steel. Once again, thanks for taking the time to create this blog and offering the sights and stories that you encountered on your incredible journey! Jeffrey Moade Bayonne, NJ

Bill, Thanks for your comments (and I DID appreciate your correction about the elk!). I liked all of my hikes in Alaska but especially liked hiking around Hatcher Pass and the Independence Mine. I also liked climbing Flattop Mountain and biking along the Tony Knowles trail. I'm curious; how did you find my blog and what do you do in Alaska? Thanks for riding along! Jack

Nice Trip...
Jack... Thanks for letting me Tag along. I hope I didnt upset you with the correction about the Moose/Elk photo. I would like to ask you a question, What was your favorite part (or parts) of Alaska and why? (Yes, I am writting a book) LOL... For the record, your trip timing was spot on, The Snow is half way down the mountains directly behind Anchoarge this AM, and 32 whole degrees this morning. You were behind the throng of tourist's, and in front of the colder weather... Good for you... Thanks again... Bill Anchorage AK PS If you would have posted pics of the pooh, I would have been able to identify the species by that too... True Alaskans just know that stuff

Congratulations!!
Wow! You did it and all you lost was a phone. It was really nice meeting you Jack. I hope you look at your trinkets and remember us, the AKMC. I know if I ever get this website back up and running right that you will always have space on our web pages. Your blog should be the best documented going there and back again. Don't forget to try and get on Miata.net as Miata of the month. All they want is a story and 3-4 pics of your great adventure. Lastly, if you are up for another Tree of Miata Adventure and to expand your Roadster Experience. Please consider a visit to Japan....look up the Kanazawa Roadster Club on google and read about another Americans visit to our sister club. Peace, Mike AKMC Anch Rep

Hi Carole! I retired in 2001 but continued working as a contractor for the same company until 2007 when I quit for good. That's why I have the time to do this trip. I still do house projects, but mostly small ones. There is still a substantial "to do" list. My next trip will definitely be with Sereda. It's going to be a while before I set out on another venture like this one. It was sure fun! Thanks for all of your comments! Love, Jack

I'll miss keeping up with you. When did you retire? I wondered how you managed this long getaway. Are you still renovating the house? Where next? Carole

Thanks
Thanks for including us in your travelblog! It has been interesting and entertaining. Thanks to you, now I HAVE to retire and do something fun. We did manage to entertain Sereda for a few hours by taking her to dinner. At least I hope she was entertained. Take care and see you soon. Gene

Early winter in Alaska
Wendy and Terry, Some of the folks I talked with in Alaska told me that they sometimes get the first hard snow in early September, so Terry is right that this is a good time to be leaving Alaska. Jack
