Happy Birthday to you!! what a birthday to remember! We 've had some good ones but that beats it. . You clearly made the most of the day and Maud's local knowledge to fit in some shopping and eat! I am left with a wonderful image of you all at the massage being slapped around the face in complete hysterics....Next time will be from the luxury of Tara Angkor. Take care and love to you all. XXX

hey old lady!
sounds like a birthday to remember, even if not in the traditional sense. what a great present from ur parents, i would never have thought of that, u must have been soooo happy! at the risk of sounding uncultured/untravelled where is siem reap? still in cambodia?
let me know when the free internet pops up again, was great to talk to u. lots of love and still missing u lots! xxxxxxxxx
The Sophie and Libby Guide Book You could be writing a top (bottom) of the pops for buses - length of journey, no of hours late, amount of squashing by sweaty men, aircon showers etc. Can it get worse or have you plumbed the depths yet? Well done for survival and for arranging a place to sleep at midnight in Phnom Phen. Love Dad
Elephants kissing That E-Kiss looks a smacker which won't help the afro. But it's all too late on that now, anyhow. Paul is right, you must shift the menu to pho bo when you have a chance. Enough of this westernised decadent food! You're doing well love.
Thank-you hi Sophi, your recall of everything is so fantastic i feel as if I am there with you which is just wonderful.Gosh you are both so brave but what a wonderful time you must be having what an experience for you both. Keep the diary coming as Rob and I love it. We have snow here and its really very cold think I would like to be there. Enjoy it all and thanks for including us in on your blog xxx and big hugs from liz and Rob in france xxxxx
great photos - elephants look amazing, as does the tea and cake lol! dramatic journey ahead by the sounds of things but you'll have a great time in le cambodge (love the french) for ur bday. so good to speak to u yday, god bless free internet! lots of love xxxxx
BIG BLACK SNAKE!!! Aaaaah..my idea of hell; water, tubing, snake, iguana thing. Still it sounded like an adventure and a great one to look back on from a safe distance. Love the photo of elephant kiss and those dogs-clearly not rabid. You are both doingrally well, great to see photos and please food still features as a critical part. Hope you get to Phnom Penh for your birthday weekend where Maudie, Lot and Molly will be. How fab to be meeting up with such good friends. maybe Maud can take you out for ants for a birthday treat. Be afraid...much love as alwaysXXXmamak
Pho Bo Sophie, strange how you yearn for western food when your Dad is fixated by Pho Bo meals! All sounds great, I will look at elephants with a new level of respect. Keep smiling, Paul and Lucy xx
Your blogs keep me sane in this essay writing madness... sophie!!!
your blogs are such a good distraction from essay writing... it makes me feel like i'm there with u...
the elephants sound amazing, such a good experience, please put some pictures up of them if u can -i bet they're really cute!
i just read three of ur blogs in one session...what a treat! i saved them up for major work distraction... ur near rabies death exaggeration made me laugh so much...all ur fears of the rabies and then to come soo close to death u must have been scared haha!!
also ur teddy bear crisp cravings-random?! although i spose u dont know what you've got till it's gone....
how is the hair going?i cant wait for u to come back with a head of ringlets its gonna be very exciting!!
i'll have to message u all my updates at some point.....(although my updates are going to sound very mundane compared to ur carzy adventures!)
anyway keep in touch,
love you lots and lots

Well the elephants sound truly wonderful! I love the sense of them being (normally) relaxed with you all. The walks sound especially delightful.
Obviously we are preparing for the Mums’ birthdays and I know Maudie is very much looking forward to seeing you very soon. Plenty of data exchange possible! Love J
Hello! Hey sophie so glad to hear you're having a great time! wish i could be there with you, i miss you and the other sydenhams!
much love, Melpzzz xxx
amazing elephants sounds fabulous time at the elephants-reminds me of Dee-she would never do touristy things with elephants because of their poor treatment. Glad i didn't know you were feeding the one who had killed his mahout, though. A great experience and now Laos -sounds like Vietnam. Glad there are still a few culinary treats to keep you focused...love mamak
Non-stop! Wow soph...your travels don't seem to calm down do they! all sounds great though!! Really do enjoy reading these! laugh out loud at my desk!
I hope you're doing ok after the sad news about Hilda. Keep smiling and having fun - i look forward to next update.
Happy elephant-ing...
love you x
People you meet Quite clearly hannah is a Bader Meinhoff german terrorist in training; well done to escape. At least she was only going to recruit you to an international secretive organisation unlike the danish and the american who wanted to recruit you to being an essex girl. So what did you ask the monks then? Did it have any relevance to your decision to forego the leg waxing (discovering your deeper karma and shallower purse?)
haha it sounds just like belgium, trying to fill our days! elephants should be amazing though, i cant wait to hear all about that. god i cant believe ur bday has come around so soon though, it does not seem like a year ago that u were getting ready for paris! have fun on those epic bus rides, lots of love xxxx
Logging in Pleased to read that you and Libby are doing so well. I am now returning to London with yr mum and dad and kitty for a few days following Hilda's funeral, which was a memorable day. I hope to speak to you from there. Keep well. Love Grandad.
feeling tired... hi Soph', really enjoying your experience in a virtual sense. Feeling exhausted by your descriptions but you seem to be sleeping for England whenever the chance occurs. I'm not sure that backpackers should admit to using a porter for 3 Kms of walking -even in the midday sun. Then again, I remember the heat of Hoi-An last year and I can imagine the challenge.
Keep us entertained and keep smiling...
india behind you... what lies ahead. Sounds as though you might meet some younger backpackers now you are in Thailand. Pleased to hear yo can now sleep on planes-amazing after suffering all these years-and throughturbulence, too! can't wait for your photos to arrive. much love-see harry's joined the group!! Well done harry
wwwooow!!!!!! everything looks so amazing so far (especially the indian trousers, which i hope in time, will catch on in England, so that I can by my own pair!)
hope everything is going well, and good luck on your journey to Thailand!!!!
