Everybody is already now (mid-November!) talking about it! I guess I will take a few days off at Gold Coast during Christmas-New Year's time ;-) Quite bizarre, X-mas during summer!!!... read more

Shopping in this heat sucks :-( ... as I had to rectify some things with my Commonwealth bank account in the central business district, I took the chance for an additional afternoon stroll in down-town Toowoomba; some parts of the city look really colonial, eg. the town hall or the Anglican church, (which I visited for making an appointment with the local church organist of one of few churches with pipe-organs); on my way I also found (by chance, hahaha) a shamrock pub! good-to-know (as I could not find any other way to buy regional beer in supermarkets here... but my house mate Riyan advised me, that they have special liquor stores where to buy this stuff); the small rivers, parks and inspiring sculptures in Toowoomba always invite you for a rest there, too... life is ... read more

Just a few facts worthwhile mentioning: - PC labs are open 24x7, with strict video surveillance! - library mostly open; very well equipped, even Spiegel; very quiet and good place for study and meeting with study colleagues - quadrangle is a good place to share breaks and meet new people - there's a student-guild club nearby for some good chat and beer - cheap membership at adjacent gym (where I joing jogging and later on also Pilates and futsal) - other amenities: barber-shop, post-office, bookshop, banks are all on-campus - nice refectory with fresh + delicious dishes every day (but they do not use any plates, but plastic-containers instead!)... - plus many things more... read more

The countryside of Toowoomba is pretty beautiful, and the landscape comparable to Rottal-Inn/Bayerischer Wald.... unfortunately I have not seen any kind of kangaroo/wallaby so far, BUT: they are supposed to be out there in the bush, which just seems to start somewhere behind Toowoomba....Toowoomba has fought some severe droughts in recent years, so the government is subsidizing rain-water systems (see tanks on the the photo next to the house), and restricting unnecessary use of water. The city's name originates from the Aborigine name for swamps/billabongs; During our jogging round-trip this morning (5:30!!!) we were running alongside some beautiful parks with lakes, that nearly stretch along and amid the whole city;... read more

Uni life is quite calm at the moment, as this semester (summer semester 3) typically is a short semester, that many students use for recreation, and some others use to try to catch up with subjects they've messed up; I got pretty acquainted to the campus and very helpful intl. student-service staff; I will join an uni-organized orientation day on Friday and thus hope to get shown everything remaining necessary for having a good start next week. For recreational purposes there's a very amazing Japanese garden adjacent the uni. Jet-lag took me nearly 2 weeks to overcome :-( , but there was so much new to see and explore, so I "convinced" me to stay up during daytime...... read more

I share this 1-storey house with 4 other student-fellas (1 from Bangladesh highlands (Arka), 1 from Saudi-Arabia (riyan), and 2 from Malaysia (Wei-Sheng and Kae-Thong)); originally I should have moved into a purely Chinese house, but my landlord's wife proposed that this company would suit me better when she picked me up at Toowoomba's bus stop; my room is the one just behind the car; it is situated to south-east direction, thus, sun heats it up pretty well during the morning hours.... sun rise here is about 4:20, and the sun reaches its climax at around 10 o'clock; every room has ceiling ventilation (NOT AC!); to uni I just need a 5-10min walk, that's fine!... read more

Finally I got picked up at Brissie airport for bus transfer to around 120 westwards lying Toowoomba a little belated, but I soon should get accustomed to a more relaxed lifestyle here in Australia; during transfer I was mostly dozing .... way too exhausted from the flight. The picture shows Brisbane river and skyline on the way to my new home in Toowoomba; driving on the left lane and mostly 1-storey bungalows in hilly Brisbane impressed me most; the weather was as expected for mid-November (Australian summer): clear blue sky with sunshine... read more

Departing from Munich (in the evening) with Lufthansa, via Frankfurt to Singapore, and finally towards a beautiful sunrise at the horizon just ahead of landing on Brissie airport; I could enjoy company of 2 really nice Australian ladies on both itinerary legs ; (one of the ladies (Martina) would invite me later on for coming over to her beautiful paradise-refuge amid Brissie for some gorgeous BBQ).... read more
