Alpacanotherone (next time). I like blogupdates like this with plenty of photos. They are easy to read. Could you send over the names of your two horses and where they're next running. I'd like to put $5 each way on them both. But, can you let me know why youse have to duck when you're riding them when there's nothing between you and the sky. Or are the skys real low and altitudes so high over there? Also, could you ask the local Minister for Roads to send a few tips on maintenance and construction over here to the NSW Government and local Council? Their roads look fantastic compared to ours and I'm sure that using their design for the Sydney Cross-City Tunnel would have saved us taxpayers over here a heap of money. Also I like the way their landscape painters over there avoid having to buy expensive canvas and frames and just work directly on the rocks. P.S. I'm a bit worried that this blogupdate carried no mention of the local beer??? Stay well, safe and happy.
Fantastic! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm planning a 3 week trip to Argentina/Chile in Nov of which half will be spent in Bariloche, El Chalten, El Calafate and Torres del Paine. I can't wait! Especially after reading your fantastic blog! And I love your pictures! wow!
Great to see all is well. Great pictures especially the steak and beer line up. Well done on the Horse Riding guys looked like a beautiful animal in the photo Keep Safe LOL xxx
geografia! A shame to catalogue this under Argentina when most of this post was about Chile! Especially considering Chile could have had more of Patagonia when land claims were being solidified, but they were busy fighting Bolivia and Peru in the War of the Pacific. Great pictures and post regardless!
Hey guys
How funny. Came across your rolling seal while doing my part in rating some pics on "please rate 10 random pictures". (It is my 5, you got, btw) Then I read who took that shot and had to smile to myself. So, you still are on the way. Excellent! Keep travelling! Cheers.
thanks for the clarifications... We did only get to visit the Argentinean side of Tierra del Fuego so there definitely was a slant to our blog entry. Don´t worry our next post is for Torres del Paine and we´ll be crediting Chile with that one. Actually we loved the area so much that we´re sure we´ll be back and hopefully then get to see more of the Chilean territories. Stay tuned for more in Patagonia. Cheers, L+T
Omen Bets I bet a horse called La Paz yesterday, but it got beat. Then bet one called Kelly - got beat (4th). Then one called Sandy - it got beat too. Family omen bets don't seem to work. Neither do places you visit. Can you please also disguise any places that are likely to have Australian horses with the same name - it's costing me a fortune. Catchyassoon.
Great Blog! Awesome blog and great pictures. I can see the Argentinian slant to the post though! The island of Tierra del Fuego is over 60% Chilean though, if anything it should be "Tierra del Fuego=Argentina/Chile". :) And the claim of "the world's southernmost city" techinically belongs to Ushuaia, Puerto Williams which lays just across the channel from Ushuaia is the "southernmost URBAN CENTER in the World" because Puerto Williams isnt big enough to be a city by the definition of the word. Thanks for the post, look forward to more!
..... wish I was there .....
oh .... I was .....
your internet diary is superb. If only my pics were half as
good. You'll be pleased to know that I finally caught up with

Auld Lang Syne Might the penguins still be seeking the bagpiper from generations past? The long awaited pics are being pored over for global warming changes (glacier collapse noted) but mostly we're just smiling at the fantastic-ness of it all.
A Leetele Beet of Tango Eestorrie The conjunction of soccer and the tango in your latest blog update reminds me of my young days when I was playing centre forward for Cambuslang Rangers JSC, usually against gangs of young trainee thugs dragged up from the lowest depths of Glasgow society. The tango was not very well known in Scotland in those days (even now), probably because of its poor correlation with bagpipe music. However, due to my skills and advanced soccer dribbling technique on the field of play, I was known as "tango feet", which was a massive compliment to anyone familiar with the intricate steps of the famous dance. I was, naturally, very proud of my soccer nickname. It was not until some years later that I discovered that my nickname was really "tangled feet", which, to be honest in retrospect, was a more accurate reflection of my soccer skills. As for super-chilled larger beer, youse will have to try tumblegum Pub, where we were on Easter Sunday. It is the coldest Tooheys I have ever tasted without going beyond the "too cold" limit. It has become a place of pilgrimage in my Lexicon of Outstanding Beers of the world. I have added Quillmes to the yet-to-be-tried section. Buena suerte. Bebida muchos cerveza e fruir muchos bisteca gigante. Hasta la vista.
Hi there! It is always a pleasure to read your travelling stories!!! I wish I could do some travelling as well...but I am stuck in the office struggeling with the finishing of my PhD! However, after the novatech conference in June I will be travelling in France a bit! Mmmm, will be nice with with beaches and hopefully a lot of sun :) Take care! Hugs from Camilla and Sweden
An old saying Your partially oblique reference to the brothels of Pompeii reminds me that the via in which the (25) Pompeiian brothels (lupinare) were located - now called the Vico del Lupinare - was the only curved street in Pompeii. All the other streets were straight. The reason they were straight was that chariots had no diffs (differential gears) and could only go straight or turn over a fairly wide arc - wider than a street. There were no chariots in the brothel street (a) because it was curved and (b) because customers like the famed and aptly named Scordopordonicus did not want to be identified by having their chariots parked outside the brothels!! Hence, the origin of the wives' saying to husbands: "Did you come straight home?" (e.g. from work). Since some bars, baths and a small theatre were also co-located in the Vico del Lupanare, on the only curved street in town, it followed that any husband who hadn't come straight home must have been in the Vico del lupanare and up to no good. You learn something every day.
no it wasn't snot... Many thanks for your info - hopefully it will help out any future hapless travellers when they hit the festival next year.
Also, it definitely was a gofry that we had... we also don't want to encourage Aussies to turn up to Poland asking for snot... ha ha
Cheers!
Gloty Interesing impressions. I had a good laugh reading about your rendezvous with oscypki. You should never buy the largest size as they are usually too salty, too dry and.. too much! The best is the medium mould, shaped like a small barrel. And you should always try a sliver before you buy (they'll always cut you one). Properly made oscypki are squeeky between the teeth, greasy, and have a rich smell as they are traditionally smoked using fruit tree wood.
Just one more word: I think you unintentionally blended "zloty" (the Polish currency) and "gofry" ['goh-free] (the waffle w/ whipped cream and topping) to finally arrive at "gloty". Anything resembling "gloty" in the Polish spelling is "gluty" ("snot") and you don't want to buy that!
Cheers.

Alice was right!! Some people should lay off Baroque jokes!!! I nearly did a Napomuk on Friday morning when I got caught in a rip/undertow down the beach. I thought it was my last rip or at least that I soon would be r.i.p. if I didn't get pulled out of it!!! I have gone back down and drawn a circlet of 7 stars to mark the spot where I went in. I was devastated to hear that Santa's Mum was up for second and third degree matricide and now know that all those imposters in the department stores really need to be there since the real Santa Claus got bumped off in a frenzy of fratricide. There are obviously many cides to Prague!!!! Puits de voyage a Nice. Ne sautez pas outre des ponts et appreciez vous le Pilsener francaise!!
