This,... Molly, I am so sorry that you're "down" this minute; however, this was a very very interesting entry!...very full of great info. And lots of thought. I feel as though you're doing a self-evaluation of your life so far in the Nica. Sounds like you're doing well, huh>??! xo
ARGH! Today is August 26th (Cindy's birthday). I mailed the camera on the 11th! WHERE IN THE WORLD IS IT!!!???? Am nearly ready to go and buy ANOTHER one and get it in the mail......just in case!
Dear dear Molly, I was rereading some of your blog entries thus far. It sounds to me like you and Lenin contribute a great great deal to the family (i.e. work, water hauling, wood hauling, many groceries, garden, supplies, etc.). As I read your entries over, I began to realize where your ever-so-meager income goes. Sounds like it goes mostly to living expenses. No wonder you're strapped for ca$h, not to mention any left for $avings!
OK, OK. Will have the apples and cheese waiting. And the hot water heater turned on high. Keep us posted!
Are you bothered with ticks down there? Chiggers? You mention mosquitos by the million, but haven't heard you talk about ticks and/or chiggers. No worries; I'll have the OFF! ready for ya!
PEPSI??? Pepsi?? Ha Ha! I am amazed each and every day at the contradictions of your life down there. You carry all of your water; you use a latrine dated 1922; you do your laundry on a rock in a creek; etc. AND YET....you drink Pepsi; you sit on Wal-Mart-type plastic chairs; your family has a Nintendo system (but no frig!); etc. Yes, help them with the barrell oven before you leave the PC. And the "new" latrine. Good goals to leave as a legacy, Dear. XO
Strange... In a different way, it's kinda strange how you see, every day, the illegal immigrant side of of the story that is so very news-worthy up here right now. Huh? Makes it 'personal'.
"Come on up!" Yes, WE ARE SOOOOOO ready for you guys to come up! Anything we can do to help with the Visa?
You know, Molly, you have actually been a DRIVER OF A VEHICLE a relatively SHORT time of your life, huh? Had the Tempo during high school, no car during your 4 years of college (including your times in China), no car in India and Goa, no car working in Philly, half a car (borrowing Arielle's) in Memphis, Kia for a short time delivering mail here, and no car in Nica! BTW....is your license still valid?? Do you even have it with you down there? Or, do I need to find it before you come home? Hmm...hadn't thought of it until now.
Oh, man...... I am so sorry about the onion seeds failure to grow! You had specifically requested them -- a great idea, though seeds had never really occurred to me. Will have to send more and see if maybe it was just that batch or somethin.
Molly!!! Just came to me....NOW your true "Nebraska Cornhusker" heritage has come to pass! Ha! Who ever would have guessed that it would be in NICARAGUA, though!! Somehow reminds me of FOREST GUMP, only with corn instead of SHRIMP!....roasted corn, baked corn, fried corn, corn on the cob, etc. Love you!
Oh,...... Oh, my Molly Bethy.......we love you and miss you so very much, too. You know how weird TIME is....seems like it was last week that you were here, but at the same time,....it seems like YEARS and YEARS. *YOU'VE* always been the one who has been away......not us. So, things kinda stay the 'same ol, same ol' around here, with changes of age mostly, while you're away and around the world and doing and experiencing things that we know of only through you. You go away and you age and you experience and you grow and you change. Sometimes it's impossible for us to totally relate to you and your growing world, with things staying relatively stable around here. In a positive, but slightly selfish way, it's nice that you miss our humble homelife here. Time to come home!!!!!!!!!!
I can understand Man I can understand all of that, has to be stressful being separated from all that you know and love for so long and under those conditions!
How Wonderful We are so happy for you . Alittle to far for us to come for the wedding but let us know what we can send as a gift or what you would like as a gift.
um,... Ummm,...like, YEEEEEEAH, guess you have plenty to keep you occupied! AND, build a brand new latreen (sp?) with some real air vents and post-1922 pit!! Ha!
OK, short email to follow. xo
Great idea! Hello Molly: I love your seed bank idea and the chance to empower the women too! Do you know my daughter Danielle?
She is a Peace Corp volunteer (new to her site) in El Hatillo, Telica, Leon. She is raising money to buy seeds, but your idea is fantastic. I will send you some seeds. I am so excited about your work! May God's blessings be on you and your village as you strive to make a positive difference! Peace and love.
me too! I think the same thing! Maybe post-Peace Corps you and I should be small business consultants. Or micro-finance managers.
I'm so happy for you, Baade!
hmmmm,.... Sounds like all GOOD NEWS this time, except for the camera (and btw, a replacement is on its way to you as we 'speak')!
Can hardly wait to meet Lenin, though feel as though I almost "know" him by now through you!
***Anyone out there have any edge on the cheapest flights to/from Managua to Missouri???????????***
Molly, I still have people asking me about sending seeds your way; it's an on-going project, right?! With any and all seeds-for-the-future welcome?
Wow!! Congratulations on your engagement. That is a big step in life, and the day you decide to have kids they will be like the best looking kids in the world. Latino/Caucasian kids are so cute and smart too because they have the chance to live in two worlds. Take care.
I am so sorry! WOW, Honey-O-Honey......you've got a lot on your plate this week, huh? I'm so sorry about your camera. AND your too-early trip in the dark.
Molly, PLEASE do keep me up on the tests. OK? I mean, like, UP TO THE HOUR. When will you get the results?
Also, tell me "again" about what kind of camera you want........you mentioned zoom, # of pixels (or whatever!).
I need details. What would be the best way to ship one down to you?? In a box in a bag?? Insured.
Love you!
How to cut your flight cost in China from my experience To all my friends who love traveling, if you want to cut down your overall vacation cost in China, I would recommend booking your china flights from http://www.bamboobookings.com
sabor chef Glad the onions are doing well for you...where's your garlic and hot peppers?...a meal is not a meal without cebollos, ajos y serranos o habaneros!
Saborearse,
Jay
Reading...a lost art! I was always a Steinbeck fan and JeriAnn an Anne Rice fan. Am currently looking for Blood of Brothers (from your list). I firmly believe that all gringos (and most especially those involved in Latin America in any way) should read OPEN VEINS OF LATIN AMERICA by Eduardo Galeano. Hugo Chavez gave Pres. Obama a copy - shame he didn't read it!
Se buena!
