A girls got to do what a girls got to do when breaking up... and spending three weeks in French Polynesia is about the best way I can think of. I've been looking forward to your blogs of this trip after seeing all your questions about how to do it on the Forums. So keep them coming!
Inspirational blog! "And I would do the whole overwater bungalow 5 star thing because we only get one life, and I intend to live mine, not someone elses version of how a life should be lived." Fuck yeah! Good to hear you got your priorities right after that emotional rollercoaster back home. It's refreshing to read honest blogs written by people who know what they want. Good on ya, mate! :)
Cheers,
Jens
''I will never have to ask twice for the dishes to be done. '' You only have to ask twice! Looks like you have a top guy there. But, keep the gun handy anyway, because they can always be improved in some way. ;)
Thanks Mel I guess for all his faults...that picture shows the true human inside - and I did ask customs but apparently kitchen mounted KR57s are just out of the questions.
Blimey..... You do get into some scrapes Cindy ;) Thankfully, I found Cambodia to be less eventful. I often find it quite humorous how the begging kids try to make you feel guilty by tugging at the ol' heart strings and yet we still fall for it, despite the fact that we know full well that they would, with complete indifference, strip us of everything we had on us given half the chance.
RIVETTING READ I used to watch World Championship Wrestling every Saturday morning on TV as a kid...then WWF when it came to Sydney...how lucky are you...Malcolm's a mega-star! Really enjoyed the blog...my kinda holiday...extreme mixed emotions.
Another retro blog I was hesitant about publishing Thanks Dave..wasnt too sure if I should or shouldnt publish this due to the accidental drug deal. Reconsidered and thought perhaps someone younger with not so much life experience could have easily found themselves in a LOT of trouble in that situation, it was very very tense. You dont end up in a compound with sacks of heroin piled up to the ceiling and expect to change your mind and walk away...an easy way to end up dead in Cambodia. The gunja actually turned out to be great for dealing with beggars, we were like the pied pipers handing out buds left right and centre to get rid of it before we had to go back to thailand. Wrestling!! Dave do you remember a wrestler Andre the Giant? was big on saturday wrestling when I was a kid..he now is a very elderly man living just around the corner..small world isnt it?
Airline Dramas I don't think there is another blogger on this site that gets caught with more flying haasles than you! Cancelled flights, refusals to let you board - what is going on?! I sure hope you luck changes next time you need to fly! Glad that everything was stable on the home front whilst you were away - no-one passed away, no Facebook parties and no skin grafts required. Good to hear that you are already planning your next holiday.
:) We've dived Tulamben... it was OK, we stayed in Amed and got there stupidly early so there were very few other divers around, don't really have any lasting memories of it though, other than a huge barracuda... I think the coral garden nearby was OK too, got up close and personal to an Ornate Ghost Pipe fish, it gave me some lovely poses for the camera do that sticks in my mind. I neither dislike or like shore diving, you do tend to see better stuff further afield thuogh! Maybe if I was 'spoilt' like you supposedly are my opinion would be different... :)
Hope your son is on the mend.... :)
Son is much better thanks! Thanks for asking, hes doing great and has luckily avoided a skin graft. As for being spoilt, I guess thats a matter of perspective. Id call it more well researched and going out of the way to find special. Seems I shall forever be chasing calypso.
Thanks everyone :) Michael and Faye, thanks, I agree, it was seriously nothing special at all there. Coral gardens was just..ok. Too many divers, too much rocks, just didnt do it for me at all. And MJ the shore diving thing with the surge and the rocks, when you are under 50kg with a weightbelt on, it really takes it out of you just getting in there. Im going to keep being spoilt. Id rather spend the extra dollars and do some research and find those magical places that you hear about from other divers, the special spots. And why shouldnt I be? I deserve it :) cant fault Ilu's business skills, she really called my bluff on that one!.
Bring on Alor and Raja. And a suprise one ;) all with boats.
Your stories always make me laugh! (and today I really appreciate it, as I'm awake at 6 am with a toothache!!). I've only done one shore dive but I quite liked it!!... I love diving, except the part where I'm on the boat... so shore diving sounds like heaven to me! I hope your son is ok
Hope your tooth is better Ouch toothache sucks - you could always zip down to tulumben and get the cleaner shrimp to give them a going over for you LOL! Hope you feel better soon.
I want the movie rights to your life story Shore diving is not for the poor but for the stupid. I mean that ever so nicely. I hate being beaten up entering and exiting. I can't believe you let her talk you into that! You are sooooo.....easy. If the universe wanted you to do shore diving they would NOT have invented boats. Hopefully, your next trip will be more to your liking.
Looks like the term Ugly American is so passe... now that other nationalities have taken over at such destinations. I just wish everyone wouldn't have copied us.
No offense You were descriptive of behavior you observed. That is different than bashing. Always good to report what you have seen. Sometimes...you just wish you had seen a little less.

LOL, I am not! I translated that comment, and am including it - Im sure Russians dont take criticism kindly but hey, Aussies dont either so im not afraid :-)
Hiya :) I'm a 50 year old free spirited lady from Australia who just updated her profile because I realised i am no longer 46 and am also not Peter Pan. I like to spend life doing ridiculous things and have no intention of ever stopping. I've taken a year off to explore the planet and reward myself for well, years of work.. Im very much a seat of your pants traveller and totally irresponsible. Most of my travels are spur of the moment run away from home episodes and my teenage sons are cool with this. Im at peace with knowing riotous times dont have to stop when your supposed to have grown up... full info
