We arrived in Kusadasi, Turkey this morning and set off on a tour of the city, including Ephesus, a carpet demonstration, and shopping! Ephesus is one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean and is one of the best preserved, thanks to the fact that it spent centuries under the sediment of the sea. Ephesus is about 6 miles in from the current shore line, but it used to be a natural port. It was a huge community, and the guide speculates that there were around 250,000 people living in the community at its peak. In Ephesus, you can see evidence of Roman baths (#5), an Amphitheatre (which is still used for concerts today), and a library.
