Hang In There Cathy, I'm thoughly enjoying reading your blurbs throughout your trip. I can't believe what you are going through with your ear! And the Thai doctor report?? With the nasty instruments?? I don't know how you are still sane...or wait...maybe you weren't to begin with...
Keep your fingers crossed that your ear is on the mend, and then you'll be able to enjoy things more. You are a trooper though, I must say!!!
Cynthia
Hey Cathy,
I'm really enjoying your blogs, but I am sorry to hear about your ear troubles. Congrats on getting your open water certificate. I would love to do that and I tried to talk Jesse into it on our last trip, but he didn't want to. I'm thinking of you often, and I'm glad you are enjoying your trip so much (minus the pus). Travel safe-Jeannie

Yo Sista Hey there big sis!!!!! The phone here doesn't ring nearly as much as it did with you gone far far away. I was so happy to hear your voice even if it was 7 o'clock in the freakin morning! I'm happy to hear you are happy and enjoying every minute of your long planned trip! I wish I was there to share the memories with you, but we'd probably end up killing eachother by the end of it cause i'm sure I would be barely eating! and you know me when i don't eat!
I love you a ton...and remeber those cute boys i warned you about...NO GOOD!
Laura
Wow..You Traveller you... Hey Cathy, You go girl!! I'm so impressed with your jouneys thus far. How interesting to hear about life, good and bad, at your far out destinations. I received this blog from your mom, and read back at your previous blogs to get the whole picture. What a trip of a lifetime. I'm somewhat jealous, although I could do without the pussy ear juice flowing down my neck! I have subscribed so I will get an email each time you blog! I look forward to reading about your trip further. Take care of the ear eh!! Next stop...Bangkok!!
Cynthia
You're right.... All bad things must come to an end! And these bad things will also come to an end. As your Grandma used to say "This too shall pass". Can't you just hear her speaking to you right now from above. Speaking of Grandma, she would be so thrilled to be following you in your travels. I just know that this next leg of the race...oops you're not on amazing race!! your journey will be as wonderful as the first two weeks. You will see and hear and do so many things your brain will be overloaded. Hey just hink!! At least you're not in jail!! That's something to be thankful for. I love your smiling face.....Mom
Sorry about your ear God yes your worse fear having to see a dr. But sounds like the dr was ok. Too bad yours ears are bad. I hope you are better soon. Love you lots.
I love your stuff! Hi There Cathy, What a wonderful trip you are having. Uncle Dave and I love your messages. Have a great time in Thailand. We leave for Texas Nov 16/06. Love you.
Malaysian Hi,
Just want to let you you know "Uncle" in Malaysia normally refers to the older man. For example a 10 year old teenager addresses a 50 year old man as Uncle (followed by the name) . While for the lady the title is Auntie.
Interesting blog :)
I knew it!! When I talked to you on the phone and you said this junk was coming out of your ear I just knew it wasn't all salt water! I didn't want to worry you though so didn't say too much. I am glad you found your way to a klinik and saw a Dr and got those Abx! Hope it clears up soon - just in time for you to dive again in Thailand! Love Mom
ceramic foot pads for the toilets squatters! WOW! Is every adventure or tour place in
Borneo run by Uncle someone or other. First you cavort around with Uncle Tan and now you're swimming and diving with Uncle Chan. Maybe in Malaysia they use Uncle like we in N.A. use Mr. I am so glad you decided to go diving. It is something you talked about alot and huimmed and haaad about and now just bit the bullet and did it! Good for you! I hope your ears can continue to stand up to the depths! Continue to have a wonderful adventure and take lots and lots of pictures. We love pictures! Love MOM
YEAH!! We've got pictures! It was sooooo good to talk to you on the phone just now - and for 1 hr 15 min! Can you imagine we had enough to say for that long. I love the picture of you freaking over the millipede. It is now one of my favorite pictures of you. I can't wait to get the CDs of pictures you are sending home! I will continue to follow you in your travells through thailand! Have a wonderful trip. Love you MOM
Scorpions on your arm!?!? Wow I can't believe you even let a scorpion near you! And those toilets - holy cow, I think if I was there I would soon become very very constipated cause I can't squat!! My legs are too short and I fall forward. Sounds like you are haveing a fantastic time. I hope that somewhere along the way you treat yourself to a 'nice' sleeping quarters for at least one night. After all this you deserve it. Ty sends his love, he says he misses you very much woof, woof! I love you and miss you. I am so bummed I missed your phone call! Sheeit! love you lots. MOM
Brrrr....wish I was there... It's snow and -8 in C. town tonight! Almost cold enough to freeze the balls off some of those monkeys flying around in the trees over your head. I really don't like winter! And not even Hallowe'en night yet!
I was just wondering if you are wearing your bra? (Hey I was going to write that in a private email but your sister told me to put it here for everyone to read) Don't you have a wonderful sister.
I can't wait to go somewhere where I can put my face in the water with all those beautiful fishies. And those birds you describe - just like pictures out of the books Speaking about pictures.......WE WANT PICTURES, WE WANT PICTURES, WE WANT PICTURES!!!!
oh ya did I tell you yet - WE WANT PICTURES!
I am so glad you are having the time of your life and meeting tons of people! Keep it up. Oh ya - don't forget the silk factory when you get to Thailand!! HAHA
Love you tons and tons, I miss your smiling face. MOM
Hey Cathy,
Now I'm sure you understand Jesse's and my absolute fascination (sp?) with snorkleing. We even dream about it; the fish all around, and floating in clear, warm sea water. When one of us wakes up in the morning and says "I dreamed I was snorkleing last night" you can tell the other person is a little jealous.
I'm sorry I didn't get to say "bon voyage mon amie", so I'm saying it now. I really enjoyed your blog and I'm sorry about the toilet paper. Did you consider that "crazy Dave" is probably just a scared kid under that facade (sp?)
Our Kaua'i trip was good-it was the only island not affected by the earthquake in any way. We missed Keira a ridiculous amount, however. Do you think she would do ok in the hostel you are staying in? Just kidding-travel safe-Jeannie
Borneo You know, don't you, that I am travelling through you. I even had out the atlas last night to track your progress. I await to see if you DO meet any wildmen, other than Crazy Dave that is.
Love Auntie Sue
WOW! Hey there sista!!! So glad to hear you're safe and sound and not in jail for doing drugs...yet! I am so glad to hear you are handling the crowds better than our lil escapade. I can only imagine some of my reactions to the food! My god...I'd probably starve! I hope you are still having the time of your life. Remember....mom wants grandkids one day! haha and you are the oldest so........
I love you a ton and stay away from the drugs!!! (I know I know...you don't plan on touching them...but those cute american boys can still plant them on you you know!!!!!!!!!)
Love Laura
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! You lucky bastard!! I was so excited to see and read your first posting!! I even started crying just because it was you and so far you are safe! (Hey, that's what Mom's are supposed to do so don't go giving me a hard time okay).
God how I am going to love reading all of your postings. I am travelling vicariously (sp?) through you! You are going to have so much fun! So keep safe and continue to have loads of fun and doing so many interesting things.
I am glad that so far the crowds have not been bothering you - after our two days in small city Kelowna where there were a FEW people I was a little bit wondering how you were going to manage the Asian crowds. LOL. Please take lots and lots of pictures, and don't forget to make sure you are in a few of them.
I miss your face already :) Love you loads MOM
Travel in Thailand Hey Cathy didn't I hear that the Canadian govt had a warning about travelling in Thailand after the govt was overthrown or some darn thing? Anyway I know you have checked it out and I know of course you have all the shots you need and you are taking some antibiotics with you just in case you need them. God I can't quit being a mom!! Have fun and stay away from bad people. I heard some of Tod's stories! Have I scared you yet? I don't think so.
Love you a whole bunch Cathy dear, Laurie
Only three more weeks!!!!!!! 3 weeks till you fly away like a bird! WOW! How the time has flown! I wanted to put a picture of Ty on here so you wouldn't forget him, but I see you already have him on your blog entries so you can just go back and look at him whenever you want! Now you just have to add me and Laura so you won't forget us either. I am very excited for you, as well as a wee bit frightened and a lot jealous! Love MOM
Hello from Lorraine in Penang Hi Katydid, great to see the blogging is getting of to a grand start.
Please excuse my ignorance, but where is Tofino. Looking forward to seeing more when you get to Asia, are you going alone?
Pity you hadn't set off ealier we could've met up for a meal and drink some place. No matter you meet different people as you go.
Best wishes
Lorraine (surfeye)
Congrats Congratulations for going on your first big trip, SE Asia is a great place to start, very easy to travel through while being quite fasinating. Must warn you that travelling is addictive, i´ve visited six continents by the age of 22 and have no intention of stopping. Glad you´ve enjoyed reading about my RTW trip.
Regards
Will
