All About Me!

My name is Justin Young, a Sophomore at Muchin College Prep, born and raised in Chicago, a city that never ceases to amaze. In my spare time, I play basketball for the Chicago Dragons Association, and during the school year, I play for my high school team. Besides basketball, I also volunteer at special events in the Chicago area with the Chicago Dragons Association. My mom is a foodie and loves to cook which is how I've come to love to all kinds of food, to try new things, and learning how to cook. I love to travel to try new foods and see new sights. In the winters, I enjoy snowboarding and look forward to traveling to new slopes.

Cambodia is becoming one of the top spots in the world for corporations to settle their factories. Companies such as Gap, Nike, and Wal-Mart have their factories all around Cambodia. Not many people in the world know about the suffering and effort that workers in these sweatshops put into the work. The workers are in harsh conditions all day. These workers are willing to work for only $40 dollars a month while the company makes millions and millions of dollars from these workers. They work 12-14 hours a day. Around 90,000 people work in these factories. A lot of these factories provide protection for the workers unlike other factories around the world. If the owners fail to pay their wages, they can end up in jail. This shows how serious the companies are in taking care ... read more

Nike is a multi-billion dollar company that has quickly spread throughout the world. Nowadays, people are spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on these shoes that Nike produces. What a lot of people do not know is the actual price it costs to create these hundred dollar shoes. For example, The Lebron 11. The retail price on this shoe is roughly $200. It costs Nike only $20 dollars to make this shoe. The workers, who are basically living because they are creating these shoes that sell for 10 times the actual price, are paid less than $3 dollars. The workers are not in the best conditions when they are creating these expensive shoes but do it so they can support their families. Nike has exploited these workers because of the extremely low pay they are receiving ... read more

In Bolivia, there is a project happening that is helping the sickened children and parents of this country. Project Ninos is part of "The Center for Global Initiatives". This global initiative helps countries such as Bolivia, Cambodia, Benin, Tanzania, and India. This project is based in Bolivia. It collaborates with Doctors of America to help citizens of Bolivia. They were the first non-Bolivia based group granted access to the prisons in Bolivia. These prisons contain parents and with them are their children. This is a major issue in Bolivia because there are children that have to endure the disease filled prisons. Project Nino provides general medicine, pediatrics, and gynecology. This issue is big because there are non-criminals in prisons and these non-criminals are children. Since there are schools in the prison, Project Nino will plan to ... read more

We have been discussing developed and developing countries in World History. I've decided to compare and contrast the two countries, Cambodia and The United States. One of the main differences between the two are that The United States is ranked number 3 compared to Cambodia, 138. The lower the HDI, the more developed the country is. This distinguishes between how developed or developing the country is. Since The US is ranked #3, it is a well developed country while Cambodia is a developing. Also, their education averages are substantially different. In the US, the average years of schooling is 13.3 years while in Cambodia, 5.8 years of schooling is present. There is a big difference between the two. Education is one of the contributions to a developed country. Also, in Cambodia, their average income is only ... read more

"Keeping up with The Kenderian" is a dramatic/thriller about a young man who was living his life as a child. He was born and raised into a rich family. His father's name was Sirak. He was a very arrogant and selfish and spoiled child. He didn't know how to live outside of his home and on his own. This was all going to change as the Armenian Genocide began. Dr. Floyd o Smith was an American missionary during the 1900s in Diarbekir Turkey. in May of 1915 he was convinced to go to the prison because there were ill patients there. Once he arrived at the prison he was prevented from entering the prison. He noticed many Armenians and Syrians at the front entrance. The imprisonment was packed with people and barred windows. The Turks kept Smith around at the time because there were seriously ill prisoners that needed attention. He noticed the horrible living conditions of the prisoners. The cells were boarded up and there was a tiny opening in the courtyard to see. Lice was heavily present in the cells. Smith met occasionally with priests and merchants that were Armenian. This was ironic because they were people of power and influence. Smith learned ... read more

The Cambodian Genocide was started in 1975 by Cambodia's communist leader: Pol Pot. He had a vision of Cambodia's future to being a communist country. Pot wanted Cambodia to be a country in which everyone worked on projects and removed buildings that had any western influence. He wanted the country to be just like the old ages of Cambodia. He formed a military with Chinese tactics and Viet Cong. This Khmer Rouge military successfully overthrew the anti-communist leader, Lon Nol during the Vietnam War. Cambodia was neutral during the war with the leadership of Lon Nol but thousands of citizens were dying due to American troops settling in. After the take over, Pol Pot ruthlessly took charge in changing Cambodia into the Mao's China communist country. This point in time was considered the Genocide because of ... read more

One thing that I own and that I believe would really help if I shared would be food. There are a lot of people in Chicago that are not as fortunate as I am to have food and a home. I believe if I share food with my community it will prevent people from starving or dying. I really learned that there were a lot of people who were less fortunate than me when I volunteered at a church in the south loop. There, I packed bags of meat, canned foods, and other food supplies for the homeless. After, I would give the homeless people these bags of food. I learned that I should be grateful with what I have today because there are people who don't have food. When I would give the homeless people ... read more

Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential modern day philosophers. She had a television show in which she talked about life. She believes that everyone is in control of their own lives. They should always follow their dreams. One's thoughts or actions are key to someones life. The decisions someone makes influence how he/she lives their life. Oprah believes that the point of life is to evolve into the complete person he/she was destined to become. She believes that the key to dreams are significants and not on really success. If the dream is important to you or significant to you, then the dream can have a big part of your life. When you experience more things, these experiences paint a picture of what your future will end up being like. Your dream must be ... read more

In this circle of hell, the 2nd circle, contains sinners who are lustful. Lustful people are those who have strong feelings of sexual desire. They are punished by endless and violent storms hitting them. During the endless storm, they are in the dark laying down. In this circle, I would place Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and Tom Brady. All three of these athletes have had affairs while with still with their significant other. Tom Brady split with his wife while she was pregnant. He later married a model who has two of his children. I would place Tiger woods on this circle because he had affairs with a handful of women while he was with his significant other. Since it was with multiple people, he would be the first one in the circle. Kobe Bryant would ... read more
