I ran into the same problem with my bags but luckily found out the day I was heading to Toronto, BEFORE I left. Not only is there only one bag but also NO excess. I had to drop 90 pounds of stuff. Luckily the school reimbursed my mom to ship it down later.
Motorcycle rule is cool. I wish Honduras had it too, as the ones that rob you are apparently often two men on a bike. I've also been told when driving in Tegus, don't roll down your windows to look at a supposed flat tire pointed out by a man on a bike, as that's when he'll put his gun to your head and rob you. Murder rate sounds right up there with Honduras! yahoo! Joys of Central America!
I know that feeling of coming "home" to a country that isn't yours. Hard to explain huh?
SMALLER than EBH?! Didn't realize you were doing Montessori. That should be interesting!
$80 is SUPER cheap for rent. The furniture thing does suck though. Mine is a furnished 2 bedroom apt directly across the street from my school but I pay $550!
Cockroaches freak me out too. Walt, his friends, and his family make fun of me. They're about as common as house flies to them. lol.
Enjoy your new adventure. Sounds like it will be awesome.

There are definitely mixed emotions about leaving, but I know that I am ready. I will always have a spot in my heart for this place and I will be visiting again someday soon I hope.
I hope you have a great time at your new school and spending time with Walter. I will be sure to keep up with your blogs also ;)
Cheers to more adventures! I look forward to reading your future blogs of your future travels and adventures. No one will ever understand your experience in Honduras unless they have lived it. I know the ups and downs and mixed emotions that come along with leaving that place, but I can also promise you that other adventures await. From one traveler to another, buenas suerte y cuidate!
Nope, they never said why it happened. Who really knows. There are a few theories...mostly gang related. But, to be honest, I have no idea.
I think it is very sad that people have to live their life around all of this violence. I hope that someday it will change, but I just don't see that happening for a long time.
I am okay with my decision to find another job, but I am really quite sad also. It is amazing how quickly this place becomes your home. It has definitely become my home and I am going to miss it as soon as I leave.
gag reflex:) I believe Lyette and I have some stories that will still get a gaga from her or just some of the people in the hood that she will have to look at will bring a little vomit to her mouth;)I LOVE YOU MISS J!!! Can not wait to see you!!!
Time to come home for sure, theres a big world out there for you to explore, and this is your time to do it..................so come home and find another corner of the world to explore.............your in my thoughts for your safe return, we love and miss you..........
OMG!!! You are by far NOT a coward!!!You traveled to a far away country and had the most amazing experience that only I can ever dream of!You conquered many of your fears and phobias that many people will never do!!!You are an extraordinary person and if something were to have happened to you, I and many others would have a very empty space in our hearts!!You are young and deserve to live your life to the fullest!!Your decision to leave there and move on is probably one of the best decisions you have made!!!I love you!!!!Be safe!!!!
Scary. Wow. That is crazy to hear. I totally know what corner and what baleada stand. Did they ever figure out WHY? I am so sorry to hear that you are heading home but to live in fear would be unfair. I understand your position. Unfortunately, this is the life that some are surrounded by daily. Sadly, my love is one of them and I must return to be with him. I wish you nothing but luck in your future and pray for safety in mine.
Sweet I know that when you write your letters to your students it will be heartfelt and individualized to each. Knowing they will more then likely keep them forever (if they are sentimental at all) then Miss J will live on in your words. Janet as much as they have made a difference to you I know without a doubt that you have made a difference to them as well.
This was a cool blog to read seeing as you did the points on what you have overcome....and what has changed you as a person....and the things that still irk you. As I was reading these they did make me chuckle. Remembered telling you a story once can't for the life of me remember what it was about but all I remember is you almost gurgitating several times during the story. LOL Well that is a bummer that we won't be able to get you going so easily anymore.
See you when you get home Janet! Safe trip
I'm telling you...you are getting a whole new daughter this summer!
Imagine all the small children that will be saved now that I have conquered my fear of flying things.
Muskees still freak me out, but if I can swim where there are visible Barracudas...I can handle the Muskees!
your comming home well i am happy that your comming home, but now you will no longer be able to get Julie to come over and take out the sink plug, no screaming when something wizzes by your head and you run for dear life knocking over small children (only to realize its a fly) ( no really mom it was a bee)............ you will now swim in Canatara beach and not worry about fish, or big fat muskees in the North..............wow this is gonna be a great summer..........oh and you can BBQ.yeah Janet.............
Thanks Tina. You always know just what to say to make me feel better. I agree with you completely. I am happy and thankful that he came into my life, it has made me a better person. If nothing else, I have made a friend that I hope to have for a long time. That to me, makes it all worth it. I have learned a lot from everything and everyone here. This experience has been nothing short of amazing.
I cannot wait to get home though! I will be seeing you very, very soon woo hoo!
Wow So the jaded Janet is no more. That to me is a good thing. It is better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all. Beautiful quote don't you think. Don't know who said it but it is the truest thing ever spoken.
I am so sorry to hear that you are in such unrest. All your friends are leaving and you are staying. However Janet you know as well as we do that you will make good friends with the new batch of teachers. You are definitely a people person and very easy to get along with once you let your walls down. Which I must admit takes a bit of time but it is worth letting you let them down.
Doniel seems like he has become a big part of your life. You will definitely need time to heal if he doesn't stay. However as you said you don't want him staying just to please you as sooner or later he will resent it. Same goes for you if you have already made up your mind of staying where you are if you change your plans for him will you not feel bitter at a later time?
Life is not easy. That we all know. You will get through this my dear. Plus you are coming home for a bit in the summer and that will be a riot in itself. So till next time take care. Keep blogging girl!
A friend once told me... "To those who lived it, no explanation is needed. To those who did not, no explanation will ever be enough."
Cherish these last few weeks Janet. Breathe in every moment, taking nothing for granted. Good luck with the next couple of weeks :)
Oh how true Jules! Yes, I think that must have been my problem! I am definitely used ot the ghetto grilling style...but I am now a grill master and so everyone better watch out this summer :)
Yes, he seemed to be having fun that night. It was a good time. I think he was mostly out of the pics somehow. He must have just been missing the camera everytime someone pulled it out. One of these days I am sure I will get a pic of him for you up here :)
You just couldn't help buying so much food as you are use to the big old ghetto BBQ's:)I did like the fact that you had drink in hand while squatting over the grill and the bottle was oh so close as well!I can't wait to see you in July and catch you up on all the drama of Twin Berry Parks!!;)
Hard to tell but I'm guessing Walt is one of the ones inside (grey shirt?) He had a GREAT time that night.
As for the life-changing experience... you'll never forget it. I, too, have been completely changed for the better and no longer take for granted the things provided to me in my life that so many others do without.
Those kids will continue to "love you Mees"! Next year will be a completely different experience from this past one but it too will bring with it many more memories and learning experiences. Looking forward to meeting you!
