Geo: 47.8, 13.0333It's our last day in Salzburg and the fabulous 400 year old traditional Christkindl-Markt (Christmas markets) are in full swing around the cathedral platz and at the foot of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. It's all about food, Christmas punch, strudel and thousands upon thousands of Christmas decorations. We found one shop which was packed with real hand painted blown eggs including ostrich, just an amazing site. Trees are twinkling everywhere and will look brilliant once dark around 5pm. I find The weather today is quite balmy for winter; Chris disagrees so it must be the male menopause kicking in.We pop back to the bierhaus we found yesterday and amusingly there is a glass piece of floor looking down a long well. At the bottom lies a skeleton holding a stein.Laundrettes in Salzburg seem to be ... read more

Geo: 47.8, 13.0333Well that what very confronting on our walk back to our hotel.A very large queue of Syrian refugees being boarded onto buses to who knows where. Despite what is happening in France and Germany right now, I still felt the need to give a thumbs up and say good luck. The smiles I got back were priceless. Love!... read more

Geo: 47.8, 13.0333It's an early rise in order to get our 9.15am Sound of Music 4 hour coach tour and excitement is almost comparable to the U2 concert just exactly a week ago. (Me cynical?)The coach is not full which is nice and off we go from Mirabelle platz. Our first stop is the back of the house overlooking the lake where they all fall in. 2 houses were used in the filming and the ballroom was actually photographed and rebuilt on set in Hollywood. Next stop is the gazebo which had been relocated at Hellbrun in the most beautiful of gardens. This now remains locked since an 86 year old fell after jumping across the benches like in the movie. Silly woman! Yet more Christmas markets were being set up in this idyllic setting. We drove back ... read more

Geo: 47.8, 13.033316tH NovemberAfter a 2 hour and 40 minute train trip we arrive in beautiful Salzburg near the Bavarian alps. You could bottle and sell this air despite that it's almost compulsory to smoke everywhere. We check into the Ramada which is 3 minute walk from the bahnhof where we have a small disagreement with the ridiculously young stupid bearded with silly curly moustache hotel manager. It gets settled quickly enough. It's very noticeable here with Syrian refugees lined up outside the station heavily monitored by police and soldiers, waiting to cross borders into Germany. It's actually quite confronting as are the beggars throughout. There's no aggression just desperation in their eyes.Off we go exploring the old town with its stunning architecture and onion domed churches scattered throughout the cobblestone streets. Much activity is taking place ... read more

Geo: 48.22, 16.37ok so we party a bit hard last night and so a well deserved sleep in is on the cards and then it's out back into central Vienna. It's a fine drizzle but not umbrella worthy. Shops do not open here on Sunday's so we opt for an Italian restaurant which turns out to be great food and perfect for people watching. We find a stereotypical Aussie bar, have a quick beer then head back to hotel.Tomorrow we get the train to Salzburg and hopefully will find a launderette as clothes are becoming hard to find in the cases then we can do the sound of music tour smelling clean and fresh.Vienna has just been wonderful. The food, the people, the clean streets and the overall friendliness. Thank you xx... read more

Geo: 48.22, 16.37Awake this morning to hear of the terror attacks in Paris where we were just days ago. Just awful. What the fuck is wrong with these people?Received several messages in regard to us being out of France and safe in Vienna however we are flying out of Paris and had planned to do the champs élysées Christmas markets. Guess not now. Have also just seen that U2 have cancelled tonight's concert out of respect.R.I.P all you innocent people.... read more

Geo: 48.22, 16.37The feeling is gone, only you and I it means nothing to me. Ohhhhhh VIENNA. (Ultravox 1981)We arrive Thursday but decide to just remain in the hotel overlooking the Danube.Friday it's time to hit the road and explore this pristine, and clean air city. The last time I was here was in the early 90's and memories are sketchy. It's Chris's first time and he loves it. The cleanliness, the fresh morning air and of course the beautiful architecture. We catch the U2 Bahn into the old centre at Karlsplatz and after just a short walk we are at the towering saint Stephens cathedral which has some scaffolding but still stunning. It's surrounded by Christmas markets which we later discover are all over the city. We see two horses playing accordions (not weird)We next ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Another day in Paris with a metro trip to the sacre cour in Montmartre. No way was I doing those steps. I did them over 20 years ago and the furnicular is only €1.80 so my legs and feet will live to see Vienna.Uj2 in Bercy Paris. Oh what a night! Thought I'd booked seating for 2 old fellas like us with our sore feet but had in fact booked standing. Turns out we had a fantastic view and was able to take some good pictures though on my iPhone which has decided not to sync with the iPad. Bloody technology. We got October which I love. Well done guys for yet another fantastic performance.... read more
