Dios bendiga este hombre You look wonderful, Ryan! I am liking the ocean rhythm you capture in your writing and the way your life seems to mirror it right now. . . glad you got a guitar. . . please keep writing--it is good to hear how this journey moves through you.
Those are some great pictures. I read a Hunter Thompson quote last week that made me think about you "Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of 'the rat race' is not yet final." you're def. my hero. keep at it!
The Wide open Sky Orion, Brother Thanks for the words and inspiration and to know that people like you continue to explore the wide open sky and to follow the dreams of the moment. I wish I were there with you dropping in on overhead lefts and wondering where the next meal might be and whom that meal will be shared with. The stories shall compile and before we know it we will be sharing a beluga on some mexican shore passing the time with stories of the wide open sky. I love you as my own brother. Keep us posted and I love those pictures of the ocean. They make me cry.
Much love and Respect, Burl
Blown Away Ryan, did you run off and join the Marines? Please don't make us wait so long to hear from you again! This is a great novel and the suspense is killing me. At ease; carry on; with LOVE from the States. {:=p
But are you still you? Back to Skool Nite tonite . . . but had to read . . . wondering if I would know you if I passed you on the street!
Let me know if you recommend it . . .. I may give it a try too! Love, Mom
Only to be young again I think what you are doing is wonderful! I wish many times that I, too, was that bottle bobbing in the open sea.
I am glad you did finally get that wave.
BTW your new haircut makes you look like a handsome surfer dude!
Keep riding those waves.
¡gracias! Ryan, thank you for this post. When we were in Nicaragua, I was amazed that the impact of the war was so present in everyone's life. In the 80's I was busy having children and was only peripherally outraged by the US funding of the contras, when it came to light. But in visiting Nicaragua, my eyes opened to this unnecessary US involvement. You re-remind me. All those connections are amazing, Ryan. Thank you for your good listening and your presence with people--you bring healing! ¡Vaya con Dios!
We are all members of the Human Tribe! Ryan, thank you so much for this beautiful and meaningful post!!!
It is a testament to your own good-hearted humanity that you have taken the time to listen and to hear and especially to befriend and learn from Dennis his Truth...about his life and the actions of our country that so affected his life...
War and Brutality are insane....Dennis and Eugene and now Dennis and you break that cycle and meet and befriend each other Human to Human...it is truly the only way to Peace...soul to soul, Human to Human....
We are all in this mess together....
Beautiful post...thank you so much!
Cuidado! Okay, that was pretty heavy for my breakfast reading. Cuidado! At first I thought you were holding a camera. Then I was trying to figure out what you had on your head when I realized why I should "watch out!"
Life in the water Looks like an amazing time my friend! Life is is a lot like those waves - full of highs and lows, and with or without you - it just keeps on rolling. Live it up while you can!! Looks like a blast.
This little piggy . . . sticks Very interesting! This according to 2 other Nicaragua travel blogs:
We saw escapee pigs had triangles of sticks tied around their heads so that they couldn´t get through the triangular styles (ganchos) that separate people´s landholdings on the island.
Girls with pig. Jalapa. The animal has a wooden restrainer around its neck to prevent it from running away.
Lovin' Life Dear Ryan, I loved reading about you and your surfing. Guess what? This summer I took up surfing! I have a 9'6'' longboard. It is a Phearson arrow. Can you even believe it? Unfortunately, the waves have not been so great. They did improve near the end of the summer, as we had a few hurricanes come by.
Glad to hear you are able to enjoy the water daily.
Best wishes. Peggy
Enjoy the adventure Hey Ryan...sounds like you're having a great time on your adventure...keep it up. Sorry to hear about the jellyfish stings...must have been pretty miserable. Your Mom told Barb about your blog so that's why I'm commenting. Keep it going as I'll check it out from time to time. Loved the pictures and am looking forward to hearing more about your travels in the coming months.
the fine print good thing one of us read the directions on that rock..... hiding under the car during a volcano eruption?!?! what if the cabbie is in the middle of adding fluids to the engine when that happens? then what??.....
i think i'll just arch my back and dive.
UTube Video of the Surf Wow, doing some internet tours of Popoyo. Found a video from a Ding Shop showing the quite impressive surf!

feel like I'm there! I've heard of yours and Alexis' various adventures over the years, so I can imagine this one pretty well, thanks to the updated technology of photos on blogs! I wish I was there enjoying you enjoying the experience! Too bad those 10 days had to end. Ohio is kind of off your travel map of destinations, but I do hope to see you soon Ryan!
Fascinating Ryan, You never cease to amaze me with your adventures. I was excited to find your blog! After reading ALL of it, I have decided you could make a living traveling the globe, doing what you love, writing/filming documentaries... Sounds good, huh? I cringed at the jellyfish sting pics as I have been a victim of one (or several hundred) in Mexico. I felt your pain! Made the mistake of squishing a bunch of "bottlecaps" inside the neck of my "skin" surfacing from a dive in Cozumel. The next day, went aboard an overniter and when we got on the boat, one of the Mexicans immediately says to me, "You bean jellyfeesh diving!" He sent one of the guys to fetch some laundry powder, mixed it with water and told me to apply the paste to the welts. He could not believe the guys on the dive boat had not done so the day before. The relief from the burning was almost immediate. I suppose it has to do with bleach. Thought i would share in case you had not heard or tried this. I had to keep a cold bandana on the area up til that point, to relieve the burning pain. I know you were miserable. Anywho, keep us posted! We might learn a few things. Most importantly, we want to be sure you are not kidnaped by some wild and crazy American Chix! Take Care and Have Lots of FUN! Luv, Aunt Denny {:=p
Thanks for sharing Ryan! Sounds like all is as it should be. Then again, how could it be otherwise? I am so happy for you and I can't wait to read more about your travels!
your friend,
Seed
