We did our 3 volunteer shifts at the rally, checked with all the vendors, visited with old friends and made some new ones. WiFi not really a great comodity in the camp ground so no blog entries for 2 days. We did manage to partake of the fare of the Biltmore. They are very proud of their food and drink. Ralf visited the winery but found it lacking as there was not one bottle of Boones Farm.Left this morning with the decision to take back roads to Indianapolis. Highway 25 was beautiful until the dreaded detour sign appeared. The detour road (which added about 30 min)turned out to be equally senic but with the added attraction of now rerouted truck traffic. We got back to 25 and then on to 141 and 412 with interuption for ... read more

Well there was no rush this AM to beat the rain....it succeeded in arriving with a vengence at 5 AM.(or possibly before). Ralf slept in while we packed up and headed to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and the futile hope for sunshine. My carfeful routing went south when I discovered a sign stating detour for bridge on 141. Bypassed the exit and on to the conventional route to Gatlinburg. This entailed going thru Pidgeon Forge AND Gatlinburg...a traffic experience in the rain that would make a colonoscopy seem pleasant. On down 141thru Newfoundland Gap in either fog or clouds or both accompied by rain. Finally arrived in Asheville at Eurosport BMW and were number 1 and 2 to register and get passes. Then on to the Biltmore where we discovered no camping till Wednesday. Also found ... read more

Nice easy day to Knoxville, about 430 miles. Have made a rather startling discovery...evidently the Suburau drivers have all purchased a Prius. Those little buggers zip in and out of traffic with no regard. Stopped here to have a fun trip down thru the Applachians to Asheville in the early morning and to avoid the high $$ motels as one gets closer to Gattlingburg. Awoke to rain..oh joy..twisties in the rain and fog. Well at least it will be cool even if we can't see the mountains. We don't have to be at the Biltmore till 7:30 tomorrow morning so today will be a real leisure day allowing for touristy things.... read more

We will be leaving June 17th for Salem, Oregon with stops in Asheville, NC, Glacier National Park, Bellingham, WA, and San Simenon, CA. Ralf wore out 3 road maps getting the shortcut down from Jonesboro to Salem but I think he finally got it. New tires on bikes, oil changed and new K&N air filters on both, and new Clearwater lights mounted on Marlena along with a led conversion for MotoLites. Since we will be in the US the entire trip, the need for some of the extra tools and parts should not be as great as it was for the Alaska trips.... read more
