Always fun
I know from whence you speak about the hospitals. I went to the other one off Sukumwit 49 for the dental appointments and it was super special. Keep up your therapy so that you keep the shoulder loose and have a great time in America. Obama is on the air tonight for a national address about the "surge" in Afganistan. Hopefully it all makes some sense. Killing people never seems a very cool thing to do. The health care debate rages on and on. Why they just don't get rid of the 65 age limit on Medicare and open it up to all the public is beyond me. But of course, I'm a sensible liberal who thinks that capitalism has its place but so does socialism. And!!!, your comments are never boring. Is that handsome man your boyfriend? Lucky you. Hugs, Dennis

Thanksgiving
Ginny, we had a great Thanksgiving and poor Bob was totally worn out when he returned home. We didn't seem to have a lot of free time together...My Thai friends love him and my PC friends all wanted to meet him. Thanks for keeping up with my adventures. Lynda

More furloughs at US Airways
Hi, Lynda, many more of our friends will be losing their jobs come February, as US Airways redesigned itself again. Doug and the others have decided LAS as well as many other stations aren't going to be their focus. LAS will be down to 36 flights a day by the first part of February. If you and I were still there we would become invols. PT back to Feb 1999, FT back to Apr 2002(I think those are the dates) will be gone. As you may expect there are a lot of very upset friends right now. You were very smart retiring. I wish I was 55 years old about now, but no such luck. Anyway, just thought I would fill you in if Penny or someone else hasn't already. I really love all your wonderful pictures and the stories of your adventures throughout Thailand and your many side trip in the other countries of Southeast Asia. Thanks for sharing them. As for me I am doing fine, just up to my eyebrows as always in politics, crafts and volunteering. You look like you are doing good from your photos. Thanks for what you do. You may feel like you are just one drop, but you are creating a very big ripple. Take care of yourself. Your Friend, Peggy

I have tried to update my blog, but have not used it for many months and forgot the password that they assigned. something slug. I am waiting to hear from thm. I had to send a picture of Laura and I with a printed date attached to verify that we are who we said we are. God what a mess. glad you are having a good time in your travels. I am sure you are anxious to get home for the holdiays. Will stay in touch and hopefully be able to give you a chat in a few days. Things are hectic but we are coping. Hi
Hi Lynda, I love the pictures! Looks lush and humid but beautiful! Glad you're getting to explore. I know you love that. I'm just staying busy with the girls. Zoe just finished volleyball and Devon is in the regional tournament for soccer. The first game is tomorrow. Rich and I went to Sedona a few weeks ago, then last week we took 4 teenage girls with us to Palm Springs for 4 days. He's heading to Japan today, then his final trip will be the 20th of this month to Amsterdam which I'll get to go with him. We'll have a couple of days there, then Rich will be formally retired. Now the work begins. We have to get his house ready to sell or rent. Hopefully the girls and I will get to go to Leah's party this weekend. It all depends on Devon's soccer games. Joyce has really had a hard time this school year. I think she's finally feeling better but getting someone to help her with Jazzercise has been almost impossible. She has so many irons in the fire. I feel for her! I love reading about your adventures! keep them coming! Evelyn

Dear Lynda: Wow, I am so impressed with all you have done and continue to do. How blessed these people are to have you in their presence even if it is a short time. I am sure it doesn't feel like a short time for you. Penny says you seem homesick a lot of the time, but don't know how you could even have the time to be able too. I heard Bob was over for a visit and that you had a good time. I know you'll enjoy your time back here for the holidays. Exactly how long will you be back in the states when you come. It would be lovely if I could get out that way to see you if you are there long enought. Take care, keep up the good work, Love, Linda

Fantastic Map!!
Lynda, That is a fantastic map you are completing. Did you have a template? I am impressed by this project. I think you are a little like me and get restless with only project. Adult ADHD perhaps? Ha, Ha! Really, I am so proud of what you are doing and know the rest of us who know you are too. Keep on keeping on. Some times less is more, at least that's what I've heard. One project instead of many, it is a new concept to me also. I love all the pictures. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me. Your Friend, Peggy

YOU
Awesome work, Lynda! That map will go a long way in giving the children a new perspective on how big (and how small) the world really is. Send me an e-mail when you have a moment to talk about things. Dan

Great Post
Wow Lynda :-) You have been busy...I appreciate your posts and pictures, isn't it amazing how we can keep up even when oceans separate... As an FYI, the village in Burma that I was in a couple months ago just got attacked by the Burma Army...sigh...so the people are scattered and on the run again...it breaks your heart. I am hoping to get back in 2010 to work at our hostel in Bueng Klung and the clinic in Lay Ton Ku...I think we are full with 50 kids now and a few wanting to go to college in Chaing Mai and Chang Rai... I'll check back with you later! Blessings on you...keep smiling :-) Monty

Steve, you have way too much time on your hands...thinking about two 18 year olds might put you in the grave! Biking is a challenge here because there are way more motorbikes then cars or regular bikes and people just drive, well in every direction and on the wrong side of the road even though their side is the right side which is really the left side but in the opposite direction. Oh, just never mind and follow me on my blog!. Keep practicing and you'll get the paragraphs right . Love ya, Lynda

It was good to get the invite to your blog and I look forward to each and every entry. I will live through your experiences because from the sounds of things already, I don't think I could rough it like you are. You will certainly return with a new appreciation of the USA among other things. It's almost embarassing what we are blessed with and take for granted. I spent 5 years in Saudi Arabia with my husband and wanted to kiss the ground on my return to the US and we lived on a compound and in housing built to US standards. I will be most interested to hear what you will be doing in the village. Have the Peace Corp leaders given you any idea? Talk about immersion learning...you will be speaking like a native in no time. Take care. The Thai people are fortunate to have you there and you are lucky to fill a most important need to serve others.

words
Thank you, Peggy, for those wise words. I will keep them in mind. Lynda

One Day at a Time.
I have one small bit of advice. I have done some extended(not nearly as lengthy)volunteer work in areas of great need. You will do yourself and everyone around you more good if you only concern yourself with the job at hand, just today. A written plan to keep you focused is good when you become so exhausted that you can barely put your thoughts together. But when it comes down to it, you only have today to get through, and there is only so much one person can do in one day. Enjoy the challenge, let it direct you, but do not let it control you. You must take good care of yourself because no one else will or can. You will get so tired, like you have never thought you could be, but learn to love it. Really love knowing how much you did to get that tired. It sounds really weird and backward, but, you will love your work more if you appreciate your exhaustion as part of your contribution to the worth of the work itself. I'm sure this will be the hardest job you will ever love! You are a strong person with character and compassion and I am behind you all the way in spirit. Namasta

Inauguration
Lynda, Obama's Inauguration was awesome! Did you get an email off to his office in regards to what you spoke to me about? I certainly don't mind speaking with our Senators, and Congresswoman on that accord, as well as an additional email to Pres.Obama. I would be proud to make these correspondences if you think they would be helpful. I hope your journey to Thailand was smooth and that your training is enjoyable and productive. Drop me a line with the details if you would like me to send these correspondences. Namasta
