ooking forward
Hello Alex- Hope you have a good time in Scandinavia. Do you have a particular theme for your travels that you intend to emphasize (like history, or architecture or art or nature, etc.) or will you take it just as it comes? Hope you have a good time and looking forward to your travel entries. Sounds like you have a good bit of territory to cover, including a good bit of time on the seas. IN terms of accommodation, do you stay in hostels or just BandB's and hotels?

Thank you Samuel
Thank you Samuel! And thank you for reading and following along. I've just arrived in Oslo, Norway, country number 83! I'm looking forward to covering the territory ahead of me. I don't think I really have a theme to my travels, I just enjoy encountering whatever comes my way. I normally stay in BnBs and hotels, I think I'm passed my hostel days, lol! Thanks again, and all the best ?

Let the Fun Begin!
Very exciting reading about your upcoming adventure to Scandinavia! As a matter of fact, I will be in Norway (for the second time) next month! I have been to Iceland and Denmark. I wish you a very exciting and safe trip, Alex!

Oh wow, that's great - I'm so glad to read you are travelling again Sylvia! And I look forward to reading about your adventures there too. I will be in Norway until 30th July, so it looks like our paths won't cross, but I'm looking forward to comparing notes :) Happy travels too! :D

A Nordic Adventure
Congratulations on setting off on another world adventure. Every time we head out we feel extremely grateful that we have the health and financial resources to explore. We are eager to hear how you like Norway as we have not been there. The Faroe Islands is one of our favorites and we've been to Iceland twice! Enjoy the thermal pools. Friends of ours just got back and they enjoyed riding the horses. I've studied your travel kit and it looks like you have everything you will need. We are so excited for you and will follow along closely. Be safe. Happy travels.

A Nordic Adventure!
Yay! Thanks MJ and Dave! I'm excited! I've read your blogs on Iceland, and I've just seen your one on the Faroe Islands now - inspirational as always! I'm very much looking forward to the thermal pools :D I love that you approve of my travel kit, lol! I think I have everything packed - fingers crossed!!

Always Impressive!
Alex, I never tire of reading your travel blogs, and I always find them impressive -- so well written, so easy and fun to read. AND, it's impressive to learn how much you've seen and absorbed on your travels. Though the places you've visited are not exactly in "my own backyard", I have never visited Connecticut or Massachusetts for any length of time. Having only been to Boston and a few other places in that state, there's still so much to see so I enjoyed the virtual tour with you. Same with seeing Hartford, etc, through your eyes. (Taking the free Yale bus -- inspired!) Can't wait to read you following entries!

Thank you!
Thank you Sylvia for your very encouraging comment, I really appreciate it. I just loved my travels in New England, and found the people so very friendly. I certainly hope to see much more of the amazing United States of America in future years, there are so many distinct regions and areas to explore there. Thank you again for your lovely comment, and for reading ?

Oh... that wicked travel itch
So glad you are on the road again!... Keep it up all summer. Weekend day trips can be lots of fun. England and the U.S. are certainly intertwined in many ways. It is fun to track it down. I enjoyed your walk in Gravesend. Thanks for the history on the Sikhism.

Travel Itch
Yes, that travel itch needs scratching, lol! As you often say, so many places to see, so little time. I love US-UK connections, Gravesend indeed provided me with that. I enjoyed visiting the Sikh temple very much, it was like being in India for a brief visit!

Pocahantas...
Now for the rest of the story. My 10th great grandfather was Henry Rolfe, the brother of John Rolfe and brother in law of Pocahantas. When she died, Henry became the guardian of their son. Henry died in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony on 1 March 1642/3.

Pocahontas
Wow, very interesting, I didn't know that. It's always very interesting finding out about your family tree Bob ??

A Successful Trip
Glad you had such an enjoyable time in the New England area Alex. What a lot of buses you took back and forth to Plymouth! I think I would have preferred renting a car for the duration of the trip, although as you say that would have been very expensive. Your summer Scandinavian travels sound exciting, and I'm looking forward to reading all about them!

Thank you
Thank you Lori, and thank you for reading my blogs ? Indeed, hiring a car would have been a bit easier, lol! Yay, I'm looking forward to Scandinavia. I look forward to hopefully reading about your travels again soon too. All the best ?

Glad you enjoyed your voyage.
Dave here.....have enjoyed your blogs and all your adventures in Boston and the surrounding areas. MJ and I have lived there as you know and enjoyed seeing it through your eyes. Looking forward to more travels! Cheers.

Thanks Dave
Thanks Dave, and thank you for reading my blogs. Yes, your blogs from Boston and around very much inspired this trip for me. What a wonderful party of the world to visit. I'm also very much enjoying reading about your adventures in the Med, and look forward to reading more about them ? All the best.

The Romance of Greyhound
Movies do make the Greyhound sound great and in the U.S. we are hesitant to ride it thinking only our sleazy citizens are riding it. We will consider it for the future and join the ranks of misfits. I'm thrilled you got in to see most of what you wanted to see in Salem. It is a cute town. No you probably would not like the Halloween commercialization. As you say the rock is important and deserves reverence. It is historic. I'd love to hear the stories of those who stepped on it! You've had great luck with buses, drivers and hotel locations. You are living a charmed life... so good to be on the road again. Although I didn't like reading about your walk along the highway. That is not safe in our country. I laughed as you were stocking up on Paul Newman's products. Whenever you run out I'll send you some!

Paul Newman and Greyhound Buses
Yay, thank you MJ and Dave! An occasional Newman's sauce top-up would be grand, thank you ? Salem and Plymouth were fine places to finish up my journey. Indeed, the highway walk didn't feel overly safe, especially crossing it, although there was a pedestrian pavement on its sides. There wasn't really any other way to get to the hotel on foot though, it was very much a car-going place... I will try to avoid in future... Yes, as well as the Greyhound mysticism, I also understood the view of Greyhound passengers as oddballs - there were certainly a few of them too, lol! I felt I had a very blessed journey indeed, I was very grateful for it. Thank you for reading my blogs, and enjoy your continued Mediterranean islands adventures ?

Plymouth Rock

Sad isn’t it
They should have protected it sooner. I guess it was Coon in the past years to chip a piece off and take it so there isn’t much left. It was a disappointment to see.

Plymouth Rock

Sad
Yes, sad indeed. Though I still very much sensed the great reverence felt for the Rock by the American people.
