Wow! You learned Norwegian for this trip.
Although I am mostly Norwegian, my efforts to pronounce words came to naught. Also, you sure can eat a lot! I continue to be amazed at what you've seen...the real heart of Scandinavia.

Norwegian
Thanks Bob. Yes, I always like to learn some of the language when I visit a country, it helps me to understand the people and the culture more. I don't normally eat that much, but I just wanted to ensure I got my £17's worth of breakfast!

Large sites with rock carvings
If you like rock carvings there is one site in Norway, Alta, and one site in Sweden, Tanus, that have been declared world heritage sites thanks to the rock carvings. /Ake

Rock Carvings
Thanks Ake, good to know. I really liked these rock carvings, I liked how they looked so much like Viking boats.

Ireland
The Irish definitely love to talk. My partner who deems herself as English actually has parents from Ireland and they all love to chat. We got back from Ireland last week and spent most our time talking. I'll probably write up a blog in a couple of years 🤣

Craic
Indeed, I believe they call it "a good craic" - I could listen to an Irishman talking all day, they have such a lovely, soothing accent. Glad to hear you've done some recent travelling again, I look forward to reading about it in a couple of years, lol! 😊👍

A measured way of life
I'm sensing that this is one of your favorite summer trips. Maybe because it is so fresh and our travel was limited for too long. It does sound like the Nordic countries took a very different approach and it seems their outcomes were good. We will know where to head during the next pandemic. I'm glad you left Stavanger for a bit to get away from all the pesky tourist. LOL. The Petroleum museum would interest me. When we were in PEI we went to the potato museum. You would think it could offer much but it was a pleasant surprise. The good thing about travel is the history and stories dig deeper than what we've heard before. So many fine details to be shared. I look forward to talking with you about ferries when we see you in March.

Measured
Thanks Merry. Measured is a good way to describe the Nordic approach I think. It was definitely an amazing journey for me, probably indeed as we'd been cooped up for so long - this was my first biggie in three years. I think I would have liked the Potato Museum too. Good point - travel gives us the finer details in stories, and there's no better place to learn about places than in the places themselves! I'm looking forward very much to March 😊

TCC
I've looked this website up and I'm actually on 49 based on some islands that I hadn't included previously because they're owned by countries. Looks like you got to see the true Ireland and all its beauty and escape the hustle and bustle of Dublin

TCC
Well done Alan! You can actually become a Provisional Member at 75 of their countries and territories. You seem well on your way! Thanks Alan, I really enjoyed my time in rural Ireland too, and hopefully I'll return again at some point to explore more of it.

TCC counts countries
A debatable discussion but glad to hear the TCC counts all parts of the UK as separate countries because this means I've seen 44 as oppose to 41. Looks like you had a good first day in Dublin; the old library is beautiful. I went there the year before Covid and it was really busy despite going at the opening time, so sounds like you benefited from the online booking system.

TCC
Yes, indeed - I think different people count their countries in different ways. So according to the TCC, you're nearly at 50 - well done! I loved my time in Ireland, and I remember reading your blog before my trip. It gave me lots of ideas and inspiration, so thank you for this 😊👍

Bergen
Yay, thanks Ake - it's nice to know my blog has been an inspiration for you. Bergen was truly beautiful. I imagine it would be even better outside the tourist season, it was really quite busy when I was there.
