Me on the Geographic Arctic Circle

Arctic circle
In 2021 we went to northern Sweden. We then went to the see the Arctic circle north of Haparanda. We took photos and posted on Facebook. Emma's brother-in-law then posted that he drives by that place twice a week. He is a truckdriver and he hauls goods from southern Sweden to the north and back every week. So much for us going to (what we thought was) exotic places. /Ake

Hverir

Sadly, too far away from Reykjavik
That looks absolutely awesome. We are hopefully going to Iceland next year. Sadly we probably won't visit Hverir as it is too far away from Reykjavik. But I know of a similar place not far from Blue Lagoon. We'll go there and get a similar experience I hope. /Ake

An Epic Adventure!
Your panoramic shot is awesome and brings the readers's attention to your marvelous blog. For us, Iceland was one of those surreal countries where you see it but it still doesn't seem real at times. It is very unique and peculiar all at the same time. Wonderfully, unique. Grimsey sounds like a special place and I wish we had gone there. Bravo! I love the Arctic Terns... I'm glad you got back to city life. Puffins are amazing birds... many birds spend days, weeks and months flying at sea. You work hard and play hard. These adventures are your reward. It is hard to follow a summer trip like this one.

Epic Adventure
Thanks MJ! It certainly was an epic summer adventure, and I think I saved the best for last in Iceland. I couldn't agree with you more on it being one of those surreal places where you can't quite believe it exists even whilst being there. The birds there were amazing, and I've really been enjoying writing up about my time in this amazing country.

Near the Laugarfell Hot Springs

Next year we hopefully go to Iceland
We were supposed to have gone to Iceland in either May or June this year but work put a halt to those plans. Hopefully we will go there next year instead. Thanks for posting so many lovely photos. /Ake

True Arctic Circle...
I wonder if tourism to Grimsby will decline in five years.

I wondered so too. Or maybe they'll do boat trips further north to cross the Arctic Circle!

Amazing
What another amazing blog. Especially loved the photographs of the streets of Akureyi and the botanical gardens. Almost felt like I was there myself. Very well written!

Thank you
Thank you Samuel, and thank you for reading my blog ๐Ÿ˜Š Akureyri was a lovely town, and the Botanical Garden was a very peaceful and attractive place.

True Arctic Circle...
did you calculate how many years it would be before the ball that marks the Arctic Circle would fall into the North Atlantic Ocean? Your trip is truly amazing!
13th November 2022

True Arctic Circle
Ah, my calculations were wrong! I re-checked, and the Arctic Circle is currently moving around 15 metres north every year, not 1.5 metres! I have changed this on my blog. Thus, it should currently be about 75 metres north of this monument. The northern tip of the island is around 150 metres north of the monument, so one will only be able to cross the Arctic Circle on Iceland for the next five years or so...! ๐Ÿ™„

Taking Time to Enjoy the Natural World
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your exciting experiences from the rocky sea crossing from the Faroes to your landing and first forays into Iceland. In addition, the sometimes complete isolation from human contact in lots of places can either be wonderful in some ways or a bit scary if anything were to happen to you or your rental car! Glad you were able to fix the car yourself!! While I visited Reykjavik in 1983 during a flight layover night, I got to see more of the country in 2018 -- and wow, what a change! At that time I got to appreciate much more of the country's striking natural beauty while visiting the Snำ•fellsnes Peninsula as I'm very sure you did where ever you ventured! Great, great photos!!

Natural World
Ah, thanks Sylvia. There is so much nature, unique and beautiful, to see in Iceland. I'm glad you've also been able to see the country, and I imagine indeed there must have been quite a change between your visits. Yes, I felt blessed to have been able to fix the car issue myself, it really brought it home to me how isolated one may become while travelling in Iceland, so I think it was a good lesson to learn early on, to perhaps avoid doing anything foolish later on. Ah, indeed, I did visit the amazing Snำ•fellsnes Peninsula later on, which I'll be writing about. I think it was my favourite place in the country, out of so many to choose from! Thank you for reading and for commenting ๐Ÿ˜Š

Faroe Islands
Another great blog with some well captured and beautiful photos. Congrats on the completing your first helicopter ride - is it like being on a plane with bad turbulence? I think it's the bumpiness and knowing I am off the ground that scares me

Faroe Islands
Thanks Alan, for reading my blogs and for your very encouraging comments ๐Ÿ˜Š Yes, the turbulence in the helicopter felt similar to a plane. I agree, I find the bumpiness and being off the ground scary too. I'm very glad I did it though, another mode of transport ticked, lol!
