People in Amsterdam are internationally recognized for their ability to party, but I think they take partying to a new level on the Queen’s birthday. We arrived in Amsterdam on Thursday, the day after the Queen’s birthday. Once we received our book of scavenges, we sought out a food challenge, a habit we often did, and headed out for lunch. On our walk to the Pancake house, we could not get over the amount of litter. Beer cans, bottles, and random orange colored litter. Orange is the color of the Queen. I basically got the feeling that there was a great big blow out and the clean up was just starting. The Pancake house was great. They have 56 different types of pancakes! Basically savory and sweet. Europe » Greece May 1st 2008

Hi Guys, Well, I imagine that some of you have been wondering if we fell off the face of the earth. We were kind of wondering that too for a while. Our latest adventure started when we arrived in Athens on Saturday afternoon. We were given a few hours off so catch up on our lives—do laundry, maybe mail some stuff home. Only problem was, the next day was Easter (different church than home). It was a little bit like Christmas Eve. Nothing was open! But, Bill and Pamela took us all out for dinner that night, we drank lots of wine and had lots of fun, then found out we had 4 countries (Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Romania) to do in the next four days. Oh, and we were on our own when it came ... read more

Cairo is an interesting place. I had been to Cairo about eight years ago and it was a very different experience for me. We have mentioned earlier, that in this ‘competition’ we are staying in very nice hotels. In some instances that is really great - we are relaxed and fitted with luxury. On the other hand, we are seen as super rich people. Taxi drivers wait outside the gates to pounce on you. When I was here before, I stayed in a dingy hostel and I didn’t feel that people tried to ‘take me for a ride’ as much as this time. For example, we asked our taxi driver to take us to the place to ride the felucca boat. We knew there was a place by the Hyatt that had a set up, ... read more

It really truly is amazing how many things we do, and how we get adjusted to being tired, lol. It is so worth it! This leg is definitely a highlight so far. Firstly, when we arrived we were all given a five hour break! We had started the joke that in the amazing race, at least the contestants are given mandatory rest breaks, so we finally got one. Then we got our books for things to do and one of them was to go to the Chitwan National park. So, you must be asking yourself, what is there to do at Chitwan National Park? Go on a Nepalese Safari of course! After a 6 hour, BUMPY ride we made it to the park. We stayed at the Macha Paradise View safari camp where we had ... read more

Hello all We are just sitting here in the airport of Bahrain. We arrived last night because we could not get direct to Cairo and our flight is not delayed, oh the joys of travelling. I thought that I would take the time to write a quick little note. The blog for Nepal is written, but on my computer and very long...we had a great time. One thing that I was going to mention and haven't so far was the transportation aspects. In the game, there is a secondary contest for the team that can use the most forms of transportation. Mom and I have decided to pursue that route. So far we have travelled on a camel, donkey, elephant, car, bus, taxi, airplane, rickshaw, trishaw, wheel barrel, cable car, street car, canoe, and jeep...to name ... read more

We just wanted to send out a quick note to let everyone know that we are headed to Cairo, Egypt. We are going to be getting there tomorrow afternoon. I am pretty excited because it is a country that I have actually been to and will be able to have a bit of a bearing before we get there. Plus, our hotel is supposed to be overlooking the pyramids, which is really cool. I have started to write the Nepal blog, but I didn't have time to finish it. I think that I will have time to send it in the morning. Nepal has been the best leg so far, I look forward to sharing it with you. Leslie and Sandy... read more

If you want to go to Club Med and relax, this is not the way to do it; having said that, this is the way to see a lot of things in a short period of time. Krista commented on the blog the other day that she was tired just reading about the things that we were doing…believe me, it is tiring. Not only that, I have decided that body odour and sweat are just a part of me and I am learning to accept them, mom’s too. Then again, isn’t what this is all about? We have seen so MUCH. Planes are our rest time. I am kind of hoping that when we find out our scores from the last leg in Malaysia that we are far enough behind that we will stop trying ... read more

If I ever am goin' to get out of here....I'm going to Kathmandu! Yep, that is right. We are on our way to Kathmandu! We should be there for atleast a night and after that, we have no idea. We had a good time in Kuala Lumpur and I didn't get a chance to swim with the sharks in Singapore because we had to book in advance. However, I did ride an elephant into the river and have a bath with it. We only have a couple of minutes here and we are going to write some more while we are sitting on the plane aka down time. It is really funny when you look forward to a plane ride for a chance to relax. We were laughing the other day, because in comparison to the ... read more

Asia » Malaysia » Wilayah Persekutuan » Kuala Lumpur April 16th 2008

Hi everybody, Well, Leslie and I are sitting on a plane right now headed for Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. I guess this is our day off, although we had to get up at 4:15 AM to go to the airport and get on the plane at 7:45AM. /Anyway, we’re not running our asses off for a day! Yesterday was another hectic one. We walked all along this street that was closed to traffic and lined with stores and shopping malls. When we got to the end, we took this ‘cab’ that was basically a box stuck on that back of a motorcycle. From the sound of it, I think the motor cycle needed a tune up and the driver was coughing his lungs out from the pollution and fumes. We didn’t get killed though!! We checked ... read more

Asia » China » Beijing April 15th 2008

Just to give everyone a quick update… We have officially finished our leg of the trip in Beijing! Wow, what a lot of things we have done. Today we explored the ‘Great Mall of China,’ visited the Confucian Temple, The Lama Temple, and The Forbidden City. We added to our list of different types of transportation, including a motorcycle with a hutch on the back to fit passengers and walked along a shopping district street other that the Great Mall. We are making this a short entry (but we gave you pictures) because we have to get up at 4 in the morning to catch our next flight out to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! Wishing everyone is well and will write again soon Leslie and Sandy ... read more
