This time around I am headed to South East Asia. Follow me while I search a path less traveled, get certified to teach yoga, and discover once again, that if you put your mind and your action to it, Dreams really do come true.

Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Pai December 28th 2013

December 28th 2013 - January 9th 2014 We spent a good chunk of time in Pai, what was intended to be 4 or 5 days turned quickly into 2 weeks. . I anticipated wanting to stay for a long time, small mountain town, reggae music, hippie backpackers, cheap hostels but it was not the best energy for me for some reason, emotionally and physically I was running on empty. Not getting much sleep the night before probably contributed to the nausea during the car ride up. The road to Pai from Chaing Mai is 175km with 765 twist and turns. Its a narrow road, people drive fast and pass on blind corners, the journey to pai is part of the grand-jour of the town. Leanne and I arrived first and found a beautiful little patch of ... read more

November 27th - December 27th It is hard to describe my month of yoga in all of its true essence. I chose to study traditional yoga, searching for something real and authentic, but not wanting it taught as a religion, and in my search found Wise Living Yoga Academy. In truth, I didn't know what all that would entail at first but after receiving a pre-arrival assignment, learned I was in for something a bit different than what we call yoga in the west. I lived and studied at Wise Living Yoga Academy with two amazing teachers, Daniel and Jeenal, explaining to us what yoga is. Daniel and Jeenal studied and received a blessing to teach what they have learned from The Yoga Institute in Mumbai India (the oldest school for yoga in the world). Our ... read more

Africa. A contenent as diverse as it is expansive. The word Africa ignites the imagination into expanses of open land, wild animals, beads, grass huts, and the opening song from the Lion King. While there are areas like this, maybe without the theme song, there are also major metropolitan cities, cars, roads, people making money from oil, children fighting gurilla wars, construction, people starving, innovation, malls, tradition, universities, mining, fossils of human origin, music, and so much more. An unknowable truth till it is experienced, Africa is a place everyone should go to once in their life, or at least thats something I've always believed. South Africa is a destination of dreams for many in other Sub-Saharan African countries. The hope of work/ an ability to provide for their families, city luxuries (technology, plumbing, food, clean-ish ... read more

A topic that has been on my mind recently is the idea, or rather I should say act, of immediacy. I believe if we live our day to day lives more immediatly we will lead peaceful, more fulfilled, happier, appreciative lives. Here's why. We often hear this idea, this way of life, expressed with great gusto; Be here now, Live in the moment, Tomorrow is not guaranteed, You only live once. How often do we actually apply the action of these ideas, the act of immediacy, into our every day lives though? When you are with friends or family, at work or school, how often are you on your phone? How often are you day dreaming about vacation or the weekend? When you are eating lunch how often are you thinking about what to have for ... read more

Africa January 31st 2011

And so my first big adventure has come to an end... In the past four months I have been to 12 countries. I have crossed boarders by boat, car, plane, bus and on foot. I've had my feet in oceans, seas, and rivers, made sand angels and rolled down sand dunes like a kid rolling down a grassy hill. I fed squirrels, birds, and stray cats. I spent Halloween in a market, Thanksgiving in a burger joint, Christmas camping in the desert, and new years in a cold fluorescent lit room where drinking was not allowed. I have jumped off a bridge twice, gone camping in the winter in Scotland, swimming in my undies, covered myself in mud, stayed up all night, drove on the opposite side of the road in the opposite side of ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London January 31st 2011

Most of our time back in London has been spent hanging out with Alex's family and friends. We spent 3 nights at Daniella's(Alex's Mom) house watching movies. We went to dinner with 2 of Alex's good friends Katie and Anna. We walked down to a pub near their house(that is something I will miss, being able to walk to the pub!) and hung out there till it closed. We also had dinner with Alex's cousin and her 2 boys one night which turned out to be a laughter filled night. The 6 year old told his older brother to give his grandma a wet willy. Nana is 86 and did not know what a wet willy is. When he said that, she said "A what?!?!" sounding absolutely horrified and shocked! We all laughed and after the ... read more

Africa » Morocco » Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz » Marrakech January 25th 2011

We landed in Marrakech at about 8am. We made our way through the small airport over to the car rental agencies. There was no one at the counter but we were finally able to find someone to help us after just a few minutes. They had us fill out a bunch of paperwork, and said our reservation was all set except for a deposit that we owed them. He said it was 1,000 Dirham. We were trying to ask the guy if we would get the money back when we returned the car and that’s when it all went downhill... Suddenly the story began to change. Our reservation was now mysteriously cancelled. But he had the money still and could get us a car. Then they had our reservation but no payment and we needed to ... read more

I know, I know! But no other title would fit quite as well so I went with it! Alex and I landed in Rome at the Fiumicino airport. You step off the plane into what could be mistaken for a shopping mall! Designer after designer shop all line the way to baggage claim. Alex and I twisted and wound our way through the shops and made it to a baggage reclaim area... Unfortunately it was not the correct one for us. We walked out of the baggage reclaim area through customs and out of the airport. My passport was never checked or stamped. We were directed to lost luggage because they could not understand that it was not our luggage that was lost but Us that were lost!!! After asking a few people we finally were ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens January 14th 2011

Athens is such an amazing city. The streets all seem to eventually lead to a square/circle. You can walk around a corner and stumble upon a small section of runes fenced off and covered in vivid greenery. There are small cobble streets and large city streets, new buildings and old ones. Graffiti that is beautiful enough to make you wish you could cover your house with it and street vendors selling pastries that make your mouth water even when you are full! I love Athens, it is my favorite city that we have been to so far. I love the food, people, art, history, architecture, weather... I just love it in general! Our first day was semi wasted due to sleep deprivation and our second day started off the same way. Alex and I had been ... read more
